Pitcher Cameron Zamparelli slugged two home runs as the Dragons downed Warwick 7-2. The teams will meet in Warwick at 1 p.m. tomorrow to play for the district championship.
After losing their opening game, the Dragons reeled off eight straight victories. They needed one more win to claim the district flag. They were due to play Minisink-Otisville on July 13, shortly after the Local went to press.
The Minor Boys won the district championship in a game that was continued from the previous night. When play resumed, the score was 11-11 in the fifth inning.
Pine Bush erased a 7-5 lead with a pair of home runs in the top half of the final inning. The power surge gave the visiting Bushmen an 8-7 lead, which they maintained in the bottom half of the inning.
Cornwall’s youngest baseball team is vying for a district championship this week. The 9-10 boys defeated Warwick in extra innings last night to advance to the finals of their age group.
There were some good photo opportunities this week. The Class of 2016 held its senior prom at Anthony’s Pier 9 on Thursday night. As prom-goers arrived, faculty advisor Jacques Ponsolle checked their names against a master list.
Trailing 2-0 in the first inning, pitcher Nick Torres noticed a teammate warming up on the sidelines. Nick thought his afternoon was finished. But it wasn’t.
