From the Town Board

The Cornwall Town Board packs a lot of business into two meetings a month. Here’s some of what the board did, and talked about, at sessions on October 11 and 18:

— A $7732 lowest bid quote from Rotolo Electric, of Middletown, was approved to repair the Quaker Ave. traffic light (near CVS). Supervisor Josh Wojehowski said the town and county have “exhausted all the cheap options” and the computer system in the light must be replaced. “It’s one of the most important lights in town,” he said.

— Cornwall Police Department officers, for a $20 buy-in, will be allowed to participate in ‘No-Shave November’, a national event when funds are raised for charity and men do not shave. It was noted, though, that officers will not be allowed to have “long stringy’ beards.

— The board gave permission for the Orange County Tourism office to film in Cornwall for a brief period on October 14. They were also filming in Cornwall-on-Hudson and other communities on “this side of the county”, the supervisor said.

— Several Girl Scout fundraisers/community events were approved, including a Trunk or Treat in the Town Hall parking lot on October 30 from 5-6:30 p.m.

— Kerri Miller was appointed to the Main St. Beautification Committee, and Sally Hilderbrand was appointed to the Youth Committee, both unanimously. There is no set length of time to serve for either.

— By a board vote the 2023 tentative budget became the preliminary budget. The budget public hearing was set for November 1.

— An engineering agreement for the possible replacement of the aging and leaking town pool was amended, adding a specialist in pools to it. Wojehowski again said that the public will be invited to comment on any plans made for the project.

— From the audience, Randy Clark asked the board for $20,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act to make improvements at Cornwall’s ‘Bark Park’. The one-acre park is “the most used park in the town”, Clark said, and “has been neglected for some time”. No action was taken, but board members said they’d do some investigation on the matter.
