Dominick A. Nisi

March 1, 1930—April 21, 2024

New Windsor, NY

Dominick Nisi, a proud veteran of the 24th Infantry Division of the United States Army, passed away peacefully during the early hours of Sunday, April 21st, 2024. The son of Philomena Sanseverino and Anthony Nisi, Dominick grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was born Saturday, March 1st of 1930 and attended school in the Bronx. At the age of 20, Dominick was called to service in the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Lieutenant Corporal, serving overseas during the Korean War. He served between the years of 1950 and 1953, engaging in numerous operations and obtaining many memories of long nights on the open seas, which he loved to regale to his family later in his life. He maintained enlistment in the Reserves after the war, until the year of 1958. Dominick proudly served his country with honor and bravery.  He had great respect for our nation’s flag and displayed it proudly outside of his home, taking the time every year to properly clean it in accordance with military protocol.

Following his military service, Dominick went to night classes at a local City College and obtained a degree in civil engineering, which he used to develop a career designing and overseeing the construction of numerous buildings scattered throughout New York City. In his free time, he loved bringing his family on small tours to view them.

Predeceased by his wife Virginia and his sister Josephine, Dominick is survived by his 3 children: Diana and her husband Marc, Anthony and his wife Colleen, and Karen and her fiancée Louis, as well as his numerous grand (and great-grand) children. His loved ones will always remember his many flashcards he prepared for an endless catalog of situations. Dominick’s greatest joy was his family. He loved helping them and passing on life lessons, and took great pride in displaying their accomplishments throughout every corner of his home.

Dominick was also an accomplished author. His book “Find Your Rainbow, I Already Found Mine” is filled with parables for everyday life and lighthearted stories meant to elevate your mood. He had a great passion for the arts. He loved music and played the saxophone and guitar. He could often be found playing his guitar, affectionately named ‘Elwis’, with his son and grandchildren. He particularly loved music from the Great American Songbook, especially those performed by Irving Berlin.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, survived by those who will forever remember the sound of him calling out “Papi’s leaving!” and can still see the taillights of his Toyota Matrix slowly turning down the road, the blinker left on for a few seconds too long.
