Mary C. Edgar

October 9, 1919-January 2, 2014

Mary C. Edgar of Cornwall died on Jan. 2 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 94 and a resident of Cornwall.

The daughter of Victor and Teresa Buchignani Nannini, she was born in Jersey City on Oct. 9, 1919. For many years she was the president of Edgar Apparel in Cornwall and Vails Gate.

“Mom truly enjoyed her family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren,” her family said. “She will be truly missed by all who knew her.”

Survivors include her son George J. Edgar and his wife Diana of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her daughter Diane M. Koch and her husband Fred of Haymarket, Va.; her brother Louis Nannini of Long Island; her grandchildren Craig Koch, Dawn Andre and husband Douglas, Brian Edgar and wife Kimberly, Jason Edgar and wife April; great grandchildren Isabella and Andrew Koch, Ashley and Tyler Andre, and Jack, Chase and Lilly Edgar.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 6 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, and was followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Martha Johanna Ochse Mee

November 12, 1941 – December 4, 2013

Martha “Patty” Mee, a longtime resident of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico died at home on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. She was the widow of John W. Mee who died there in 2004.

Patty was born in Cornwall on Nov. 12, 1941 and was the beloved first child of Howard and Margery MacGregor Ochse. She was an honor student at Cornwall Central High School, class of 1959, and a proud graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital Training School for Nurses in New York City.

She was married to John L. Giddings for twenty years and owned Acorn Knoll Kennel in Cornwall, where she bred and trained scores of German Shepherd and Lhasa Apso dogs. Patty loved to bake, make jam, garden, sew, knit and refinish furniture. Her greatest passion was reading and talking about books.

After her first marriage, Patty returned to nursing and was a night shift charge nurse at Cornwall Hospital. In 1987, she married John Mee, a school principal in Newburgh and they began to travel to Mexico. They purchased a house in the village of Ajijic on Lake Chapala and in 1991 retired from their jobs and migrated there.

She is survived by two daughters: Joanna Giddings and her partner, Eric Peele, of Old Greenwich, Conn. and Dr. Virginia Giddings and husband, William Symons and their children, Samantha and John William of New Albany, Ohio. Patty leaves three siblings: Roger Ochse and wife Joann of Bethlehem, Penn., Madelyn Folino and husband Ross of Pine Island, N.Y. and David Ochse and wife Sue of Porters Corner, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by   twin infant daughters, Adrienne and Christina.

No religious service will be held. Her ashes will be interred at Willow Dell Cemetery in Cornwall-on-Hudson, at a family gathering next summer. Memorial donations to any charity that protects animals will be sincerely appreciated.

Ann “EE” Palermo

July 6, 1923-December 31, 2013

Ann “EE” Palermo, a lifelong resident of Cornwall, , entered into rest on Dec. 31 in South Carolina.  She was 90.

The daughter of the late James and Catherine Lewis Keegan, she was born on July 6, 1923 in Cornwall, NY.

Ann was a waitress in several local restaurants for most of her life.  She was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, a lifetime member of Catholic Daughters of America Court Rita #264, and a past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.  She loved making ceramic pieces for her friends and family. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and she will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: daughters Judy St. Michel and husband Ray of South Carolina, and Michele Paratore of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Kevin Keegan and wife Anne; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Palermo, and daughter Nancy Wojehowski.

A Memorial Service will be held in South Carolina for family and friends.  In the spring, a service will be held locally, followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Susan E. Schauwecker

October 22, 1958-January 1, 2014

Susan E. Schauwecker died on Jan. 1 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. She was 55 and a resident of Cornwall.

The daughter of Jules and Marcia Steadman Barki, she was born in Cornwall on Oct. 22, 1958. She was a medical coder with Castle Point Veterans Hospital.

Survivors include her daughters Jennifer Salvucci of New Windsor and Erica Schauwecker of Marlboro. Her father Jules Barki of New Windsor; her brother Michael Barki and his wife Carolyn of Connecticut; her sisters Diane Humphrey and husband Harvey of Wisconsin and Jeanne Bozich and husband Martin of Salisbury Mills; her grandchild Gabriella Salvucci; her nieces and nephews Joshua Humphrey, Jackie, Matthew and Stephen Bozich, Kenneth and Olivia Barki. She was predeceased by her mother.

The family received visitors on Jan. 6 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 7 at St. Francis Church in Newburgh and was followed by cremation.
