Obituary – August 19, 2022

Nancy Maureen McGuire

September 24, 1945—July 23, 2022

Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY

Nancy Maureen McGuire, a lifetime Cornwall-on-Hudson resident, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the age of 76.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents Robert and Lillian (Slavicek) McGuire and her partner John “Jack” Edsall. Nancy was also a caregiver to many, personally caring for two aunts, Emily Slavicek and Helen McGarry, in their final years.  Nancy is survived by her cousins: Barbara (Andrew) Monich, Marylou Monich, William (Carol) Staska, and June Battisti; as well as the Edsall, Lennon and Luska families.

Nancy earned her Bachelor’s degree from Ladycliff College, and a Master’s degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College. Nancy began her career in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District in the 1960’s, retiring in 2001. While Nancy had no children of her own, she was able to share her passion for learning and reading with thousands of children in her time at GAMS.

Nancy had many passions over her lifetime, including cooking, dollmaking and knitting. During breaks from school, Nancy was an avid traveler and loved to share stories from her adventures. In recent years, Nancy became interested in expanding her knowledge in year-round tennis when she was unable to attend the tournaments in person. Most notably, Nancy enjoyed spending a quiet morning at the river connecting with others, where she met her partner, Jack.

Above all, Nancy was a confidant to many, and she will be dearly missed by her friends and neighbors, who were so helpful and important to her. While she left us suddenly, legacies can live on forever. Continue to carry her in your heart and discover ways to honor Nancy.

At Nancy’s request, a private burial will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery.

Memorial Donations may be made in Nancy’s name to The Hudson Valley SPCA, 940 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor, NY 12553

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at SLCH and WMC for their care and compassion.
