Pamela Carol Deans

September 11, 1952—January 11, 2022

Ashburn, VA formerly Cornwall, NY

Pamela Carol Deans, a former resident of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2022 at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT.  She was 69 years old.

The daughter of the late George Ullrich and Mildred (Strott) Benzing, Pamela was born on September 11, 1952 in Baltimore, MD.  

Pam retired as a Clerk Typist from the Highland Falls Central School District in Highland Falls, New York. She enjoyed interacting with students at James I. O’Neill High School, where she positively influenced many students during her tenure as a senior class advisor. Pam took great pride and joy in her roles as the girls’ and boys’ varsity tennis coach.

Pam was an active member of her church community and a travel enthusiast. She traveled to Egypt and Guatemala with church groups on mission trips. Pam was an avid tennis player who took pleasure in competing as a USTA member. Pam was a selfless individual who always put others first and cherished her friendships. Pam’s true passion was spending time with her family, particularly her three grandsons.

In addition to her parents, Pamela was predeceased by her loving husband: William T. Deans, in 2015.  She is survived by her stepfather Edward T. Benzing of Manchester CT, brothers: David Ullrich and his wife Alicia of Gettysburg PA, George Ullrich and his wife Jamie of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Kendall Sneddan and wife Dorthy of Frederick, Maryland,  daughter: Jennifer L. (Deans) Leach and her husband David of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY; her son: Kevin J. Deans and his wife Jennifer of Ashburn, VA; 3 grandchildren: Daniel and Michael Leach and Kevin John Deans, II; And several nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life will be held for the family at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th.  Due to the continued public health concerns of covid-19, the family invites those wishing to pay their respects by attending the service via Zoom. 

A Private Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mountainville, NY.

Dorothy Helen Pastor

February 14, 1933—January 11, 2022

Cornwall, NY

Dorothy Helen Pastor, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2022 at Wingate at Beacon, Beacon, NY. She was 88 years old.

Born on February 14, 1933, in Queens, NY she was the daughter of the late Martin and Helen Weigand. 

Dorothy retired after 20 years of service from the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles in New York City. 

She is survived by her son: Martin Pastor and his wife Vivian and grandchildren Selena, Lorena, and Lorenzo of Cornwall, NY.

Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, January 14th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Due to the continued public health concerns of covid-19, please know that facial coverings must be worn in the funeral home at all times.

A Graveside Service followed Visitation at 12:30 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middle Hope, NY.

Bella Whalen

August 18, 1923— January 12, 2022

Formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY

Bella Whalen of Orangeburg, NY and formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY entered into rest on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022. She was ninety-eight.

The daughter of the late Amelia and Antonio Pinto, she was born on August 18th, 1923, in Vila Soeiro, Portugal.

Bella, with her family, emigrated from Portugal to Yonkers, NY in 1928. She married George V. Whalen in 1946 and lived in Athens, Greece and Presque Isle, Maine courtesy of the US Air Force before settling in Cornwall, NY in 1958 as her late husband’s last posting was Stewart Air Force base. She worked as a Library Aide at Canterbury Elementary and Cornwall on Hudson Elementary schools. After 53 years in Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson she relocated to Orangeburg, NY in 2011. 

She is survived by her son George Whalen and his wife Laureen; six grandchildren: Meghan, Kristen, Michael and Richard Whalen, and Melissa and Richard Zodikoff; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George Whalen, sons Richard Whalen and Paul Whalen, sisters Emily and Sally and brothers Manny, Paul, and Mario.

Bella was known as a strong-willed, loving woman who was devoted to friends and family. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 19th from 4-8 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 20th at 10AM at St. Catharine’s Church, 523 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.
