District mails ballots

Ballots will be mailed to every registered voter in the Cornwall Central School District on Friday. They are being sent first class so they should reach their destinations quickly.

The ballots ask you to vote “yes” or “no” on the school budget and the library budget. You will also get to choose the candidates you want on the school board and library board.

Each voter in a household will get their own ballot along with a postage free return envelope. For a ballot to count, it must be received by the school district by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9. If you’re wary of the mail, or if you wait till the last minute, you can deliver your ballot to 24 Idlewild Avenue in Cornwall-on-Hudson on June 9. There will be people in the district office to receive it.

Unlike government elections, the postmark on the return envelope will be irrelevant. If a ballot is mailed early but received late, it won’t count.

Last week’s Local included information on the library race. The school board has four people running for three available seats. Incumbents Larry Berger and Margaret Quinn are seeking another term. Richard Schaffner, who is due to graduate from Cornwall Central High School in June, is hoping to give the board a different perspective. Also in the running is Teresa Budich. She served six terms in Monroe-Woodbury before being defeated in a bid for re-election. She is now living in the Cornwall School District.
