Anita E. Holstein

Anita E. Holstein, of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into eternal rest on Aug. 7 at her home. She was 85 years old.

The daughter of the late William F. Morell, III and Minnie (Seaman) Morell, Anita was born on Oct. 22, 1933 in Cutchogue, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her loving husband David Holstein in 2013. She is survived by her son Christopher D. Holstein of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her daughter Carrie J. Addessi and her husband Richard of Tappan; her grandchildren Matthew Salvesen and Tina D’Amico-Salvesen, Salvatore and Marissa D’Amico, Jake Addessi; her great-grandchild Ava Gioia-Salvesen; and her sister: Joan Merrihew of San Marco, Calif. In addition to her husband, Anita was predeceased by her son Gregory Holstein; and her great grandchild: Mia Concettina Salvesen.

Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 9 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc. in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A chapel service was held on Aug. 10 at the funeral home. Interment followed the service at St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.

Thomas Maher

November 1, 1933 – August 9, 2019

Highland Falls

Thomas Maher passed away Friday Aug. 9 in Pough-keepsie. He was 85 years old.

Son of the late William and Mary Helen Crichton Maher, he was born Nov. 11, 1933 in Nyack. Thomas retired from New York Trap Rock a division of Tilcon Industries in West Nyack. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Highland Falls and loved Notre Dame football.

Survivors include his wife Marylin at home; his sons Michael and fiancee Trisha of Highland Falls and Thomas and wife Melissa of Oyster Bay Cove; his brother Lawrence of Haverstraw; his grandchildren Cody, William, Brendan, Annabel, Rachel, Colin and Nicholas; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his son Stephen, his brother William and his sister Mary Louise Schermerhorn.

Visitation was due to be held at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls, on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 10-11:30 a.m. and was to be followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament in Fort Mont-gomery, on Thursday Aug. 15, at noon. Cremation to follow at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Elizabeth M. O’Dell

Cornwall-on-Hudson

Elizabeth M. O’Dell of Cornwall-on-Hudson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her children, on Aug. 7. She was 91 years old.
The daughter of the late Alexander (Red) and Alice Howard she was born on July 5, 1928 in Newburgh.

Affectionately known as “Liz” to her late husband and “Aunt Bet” to her extended family, she raised five children in the Cornwall community and loved them all like the Mama Bear she was.

While being a full time mother she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choirs of the Cornwall Presbyterian and the Canterbury Presbyterian Churches. Mom believed that reading instilled special power and spent countless hours reading to her children and later on to her grandchildren. This love of reading led to her becoming a proofreader at the Cornwall Press after her last child went to school full-time.

She was preceded in death by her husband John G. O’Dell on July 3 of this year, her first born son Arthur H. O’Dell, her grandson James A. Becker and brothers Frederick L. Howard and Robert J. Howard.
She is survived by her sons Russell A. O’Dell and John G. O’Dell Jr.; her daughters Debra J. Ramos and Alice E. Becker; her brothers Arthur R. Howard and Alexander S. Howard Jr.; her sister Bonnie J. Fay; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for both John G. Odell and Elizabeth M. O’Dell on Sept. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of their son Russell A. O’Dell at 1531 Route 94, New Windsor. All who knew them are welcome to come and share their memories.
