Arthur C. Malagoli, Jr.

May 7, 1973-June 28, 2019

Cornwall-on-Hudson

Arthur C. Malagoli, Jr., of Cornwall-on-Hudson, entered into eternal rest on June 28 at his home. He was 46 years old.

The son of Carol A. (Unnic) Malagoli of New Windsor and Arthur C. Malagoli, Sr. of Scranton, Penn., Arthur was born on May 7, 1973 in Suffern.

He was an iron worker with Local #417 in Wallkill. He had also worked as a waiter at the West Point Officers Club at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and at the Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park.

“A beautiful man with a heart of gold,” his family said. “Art loved making people smile and seeing them happy. He was a gentle man who was very creative and enjoyed making things with his hands. He also enjoyed learning magic tricks and trying them out on friends and family; he enjoyed challenging his daughter to a game of darts, hiking through the woods or playing a game of catch with her. Spending time with family telling stories and playing games with kids always delighted him. He was always available to help anyone when they needed it.”

In addition to his parents, Arthur is survived by his loving daughter Amber M. Malagoli of New Windsor; by his mother’s husband Michael L. Plaviak; by his father’s wife: Donna; and by his long-time companion DiannaVelasquez.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 1 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, July 2 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, and was followed by interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Middle Hope.

Susan Patricia Mulvehill

February 2, 1949-June 20, 2019

Victorville, Calif.

Susan Patricia Mulvehill of Victorville, Calif., formerly of Cornwall and New Windsor, entered into rest on Thursday, June 20.

The daughter of the late Alfred Joseph and Anna Faitak Lowry, she was born on Feb. 2, 1949 in Newburgh.

Susan was a graduate of Mount St. Mary Academy, in Newburgh. She worked for the Cornwall Central School District as a teacher’s aide, and later retired from the Adelanto Elementary School District in Adelanto, Calif.

Survivors include her sons Brian Mulvehill and wife Rhonda of Vail, Ariz. and Sean Mulvehill of Victorville; her daughters Anna Strauss and husband Samuel of Branchburg, N.J. and Meagan Mulvehill of Victorville; six grandchildren; and brother Peter Lowry of California. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore J. Mulvehill, as well as her aunt and uncle, Rose and Daniel Dolan of Cornwall.

There were no services per Susan’s request.

She was a kind and generous lady and will be deeply missed.

Elvita (“Vita”) Marie Rhodes

November 20, 1949-June 19, 2019

Beacon

Elvita Marie Rhodes, a resident of Beacon, who attended school in Cornwall, passed away on June 19 at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Vita took her last breath waiting for a lung transplant to relieve progressive pulmonary fibrosis. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, please consider a donation to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a local associated effort, as well as becoming a registered organ donor.

Vita was born in Warwick, on Nov. 20, 1949 the daughter of the late Vito and Maria Cosentino Sabia. She received an Associate in Applied Science in Apparel Design in 1969 and an Associate in Applied Science in Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Vita married James W. Rhodes in 1977. He survives at home.

Vita was a loving wife and companion providing guidance and support to the architectural career of her husband. Vita worked as archivist of historic drawings and documents for the restoration of Grand Central Terminal from 1996 – 2000. Following her successful and influential career in apparel and textile design for leading knit and woven industries, Vita served as office manager for civil engineers in Peekskill as well as managing and growing the office of Preservation Design. She transitioned from machine knitting to hand knitting, drawing on her experience as a colorist/stylist to producing complex and ambitious projects for her home, friends, premature infants and helmet liners for troops in Afghanistan. Vita was devoted to environmental and architectural conservation; she demonstrated that indeed “preservation begins at home.” Vita’s spirit was so positive and filled with life, the personification of her sweet name.

David Lee Stein

June 30, 1959-June 25, 2019

Cornwall

David Lee Stein, of Cornwall, passed from this Earthly world on Tuesday, June 25 after battling cancer for four years. He was just shy of 60.

The son of the late Nathan and Miriam Goldfeder Stein, he was born on June 30, 1959 in Brooklyn.

David was a gift to his family. He was a talented musician and a talented carpenter, which was how he earned a living for most of his life. David’s friends were extremely important to him. They were a part of his everyday life, and gave him much needed support and comfort in his health and in his illness. He will be missed by all who knew him.

David leaves behind his daughter, Lauren Stein Crays of Somerset, N.J., of whom he was extremely proud; two sisters: Gail Berger and her husband Larry, and Sherri Natalie and her husband Ken; several nieces and nephews, as well as 12 grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date. All of his family and friends are welcome to join us.
