Kari Joyce

May 13, 1938-September 11, 2018

Formerly of Cornwall

Kari Joyce, a former Cornwall resident, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 11 at her home.  She was 80 years old.

The daughter of the late Reidar Selmer-Olsen and Aasta Kjode, Kari was born on May 13, 1938 in Norway.

“Kari loved her family, friends, birds and flowers.   She will be missed greatly,” her family said.

Kari is survived by her loving husband Adrian M. Joyce; her son: Mark Joyce and his wife Heather; her daughters: Monica (Joyce) Waite and Kiersten Meier and her husband Christopher; six grandchildren and two great grandchild.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Chapel Service will be held at 12 p.m. following the visitation. Inurnment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mountainville.

Catherine C. Russell

Died Nov. 13, 2018

Formerly of Cornwall

Catherine C. Russell, a past resident of Idlewild Creek apartments in Cornwall, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Nov. 13. She enjoyed the 93 years she spent with us all.

Raised on Long Island, Catherine was a middle school teacher at St. Kilian Catholic School in Farmingdale for over 30 years. She was also an active member in many parish programs, including Outreach and as a school faculty representative. Catherine had a positive impact on so many of the lives of her past students and fellow parishioners.

During her time in Cornwall, Catherine was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Canterbury R.C. Church, in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Loving wife and beloved mother, she is predeceased by her husband, the late John E. Russell, Sr. and her son, the late John Jr; she is survived by her daughters Catherine Heller (Lenny) of Farmingdale, and Helen Tari (Bill) of Jefferson, her son Peter (Emily) of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her grandchildren, Rachel Jensen of Farmingdale, and Amanda, Conner and Samantha Russell all of Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Service arrangements were entrusted to the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc. of Farmingdale, and the funeral Mass took place at St. Kilian’s R.C. Church on Nov. 19. Interment was at the Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn,.

C. David Scott

December 24, 1931 – November 9, 2018

Formerly of Fort Montgomery

C. David Scott passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2018 in Fuquay Varina, N.C.

He was born in Cornwall on Dec. 24, 1931. Dave attended Highland Falls Schools and often talked about great times he had working with friends and brother at the ‘Boodlers’ serving cadets, Scott Motors as a mechanic, Stewart Air Force base as a driver training instructor, West Point as a firefighter, and as an OSHA compliance officer.

Dave served the community proudly in the US Army; as life member, driver and former chief of the Fort Montgomery Fire Department; and life member of the Town of Highlands Ambulance Corps.  Dave enjoyed serving on the Highland Falls-Fort Montgomery Central School District Board of Education. Later in life he delivered Meals on Wheels in Florida.

Dave’s passion was spending time with family and  friends at their Fort Montgomery home on Franklin Street, on Scott’s Circle, at Long Pond; and in Lake Hortonia, Vt., Lake Adventure, Penn., and Lake Fairways, Fla.

Dave was predeceased by his wife of 48 years Jeanne (McCabe) Scott; parents Ellsworth Drew Scott and Alyce (Morgenthaler) Scott; nephews Robert D. Scott Jr. and Timothy McCabe; and niece Jennifer (McCabe) Anderson.

He is survived by his brother Robert Drew Scott; children – Jeanne Norman (Elliott), C. David Scott Jr. (June), Michael Scott (LeeAnn) and Stephen Scott (Donna); 11 grandchildren – Nathan, Christopher, Brigid, Monica, Maureen, Emily, Michelle, Kenneth, Stephanie, Dillon and Bryan; two great-grandchildren – Calvin and Jude; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life mass will be scheduled for Summer 2019 at his favorite place of worship, Blessed Sacrament Chapel. His ashes will be buried alongside his wife, in Union Cemetery on Old State Road in Highland Falls. The family requests you perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
