This Saturday marks the last day of the seasonal farmers market, but additional opportunities to purchase fresh produce and other foods are just around the corner.
Weather permitting, Saturday’s market will be outdoors from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Munger Cottage. It will serve as a prelude to the summer farmers market which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting on the first Wednesday in June through the last Wednesday in September. There will be no market on July 5, the day after Independence Day, and Sept. 6, the first day of school. The market will be set up on the lawn of Town Hall.
The farmers market has been a staple in Cornwall for the last nine years. It was started by the food co-op before it was taken over by the town’s Recreation Department.
Over 10 vendors have confirmed they’ll be returning this year, but because of the market’s open format, the offerings could differ from week to week. Vendors are allowed to sign up to attend every other week, once a month, or even just for the months of July and August.
“We did it last year and it seemed to work really well,” said Mary Beth Greene-Krafft. “We have vendors who have other endeavors or as per their growing schedule they only have product for certain times of the year.”
Vendors need only provide a week’s notice before attending. The market is always accepting new applications. Those interested in participating can call the recreation office at 845-534-2070.
Items available for purchase will include honey, eggs, dairy products, meats, seafood, fruits and vegetables, baked goods, Italian specialty foods, and Greek food.
The farmers market will be collaborating with the Cornwall Public Library to offer story time for toddlers and youngsters at 12:15 p.m. starting in July through the first week in August.
