Leonard Joseph “Chicky” Chircola

December 5, 1928-August 28, 2016

Leonard Joseph Chicola, known to his family and close friends as “Chicky,” went home to his eternal rest on Aug. 28. He was 87. The son of the late Joseph and Catherine Chicola, he was born on Dec. 5, 1928 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Leonard was retired after 28 years with the New York Transit Authority. After his retirement he moved to Cornwall and after a few years went to work at the United States Military Academy transporting cadet athletes.

Leonard’s greatest joy was his family. He loved attending any special activity his grandchildren were involved in. You could always find him in the audience with his camcorder.

Leonard is survived and will be greatly missed by his children: Kathleen Callahan and her husband Walter of Cornwall, Elaine Aponte and her husband Manny of Walden, and Rev. Timothy Chicola and his wife Marianne of Roseland, N.J. He also leaves his grandchildren: Michael and his partner Andrea, David, Melissa, Elizabeth and her husband Scott, Daniel and his wife Emily, Jon Paul, Kaitlin and her husband Scott, Emily and her husband Matt, Caroline and his great-grandchildren Vincent, Anna, Nico and Abigail.  Leonard was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Anne, and his grandsons Joseph and Christopher.

Visitors will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday Sept. 2 and 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday Sept. 3 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A celebration of Leonard’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cornwall Baptist Cemetery.
