Girls lacrosse
Thursday, May 12
In a battle for first place, the Lady Dragons failed to capitalize and lost a close match, 9-8, to division rival Goshen. The Gladiators remain undefeated within the division.
Emily Gaillard scored three times and Madeline McGuire had two goals. Dana Garguilo, Samantha Incognoli, and Olivia Kelsey added a goal apiece. Abigail Dunning, Kelsey, and Incognoli each had an assist. Jessica Gurrieri recorded 15 saves.
Despite the loss, the girls clinched a playoff berth for the second time.
Monday, May 16
The Lady Dragons stifled Washingtonville with its defense, as Gurrieri faced only eight shots en route to the team’s first shutout in program history. The final score was 13-0.
Gaillard scored seven goals as she became the second player in team history to score 100 goals. She now has a total of 105 career goals.
McGuire and Gargiulo added two goals apiece while Dunning and Kelsey each added one to the scoreboard. McGuire also had three assists while Dunning, Gaillard, and Cassidy Hazard each added one.
Cornwall is 7-3 in league play and 9-5 overall.
Boys lacrosse
Saturday, May 14
Valley Central beat Cornwall 11-9. Joe Korycki scored five goals, Ryan Vizethann added three, and Kevin O’Brien had one. Gabel Flaten and O’Brien recorded two assists and Korycki had one. Ryan Guild made 12 saves.
The team has a 4-1 division record and is 9-7 overall.
Baseball
Thursday, May 12
Cornwall improved to 6-0 in league play after defeating second place Monticello 9-1 on Thursday. The win was backed by Ian Jenkeleit who scored four times on four hits and batted in three runs. Peter McGovern recorded the win, allowing one run over five innings. He struck out three, walked two, and surrendered five hits.
The Dragons jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs in the first two innings. In the first, Jenkeleit doubled and advanced to third on a Dominick Marzigliano line out to center. A run scored on Jason Bailey’s single to right.
In the second, Nick Krafft reached base on an error and came around to score on another error. Brendan Fischer singled, Ian Engenito doubled, and Matt Krafft walked to load the bases. Jenkeleit doubled, scoring two runs. Krafft came around to score before Marzigliano singled to center advancing Jenkeleit to third, who came around to score on a Bailey single.
Monday, May 16
Nick Torres threw a no hitter leading the way for Cornwall’s 7-0 victory over Washingtonville. Torres struck out six and walked three.
The Dragons held a 2-0 lead through the first three innings, then the bats came alive in the fourth as four ruuns crossed the plate courtesy of a two-run single by Matt Krafft and two wild pitches. Krafft finished the day going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Jenkeleit added a run and an RBI, as did Tyler Trieste. Marzigliano batted in a run and Nick Krafft, Fischer, and George Parker each scored once.
The Dragons are 9-0 in league play and 14-3 overall.
Boys Tennis
Monday, May 16
The netmen beat Warwick 6-1 to extend their win streak to 54 matches. Singles victories came from Lucas Arora, Dan Leach, Mike Miller, and Reilly Chin. In doubles matches, Joe McDonald-Mike Doulin and John Zannin-Sean Jessup were victorious.
Cornwall is 8-0 in the division and 12-0 overall.
Golf
Monday, May 16
In the OCIAA tournament, Ryan Rodriguez (84), Gannon Yarmus (89), and Mike Bertotti (91) qualified for the Section 9 tournament which begins Monday at the Powelton Club in Newburgh. The boys places 5th, 11th, and 18th respectively.
Missing the cut were Dan Goetze, and Matt Lindenberger.
Rodriguez will be making his sixth appearance at the Section 9 tournament while Yarmus and Bertotti will be making their first.
Softball
Saturday, May 14
In a non-league game, Cornwall beat O’Neill by a score of 10-2. Sam Novak went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle, saving the easiest, a single, for her final hit. She recorded two RBIs. Nellie Pskowski went 3-for-4, all singles, and batted home three runs. Ashley Garcia had two base hits and batted in two runs.
On the mound, Sarah Stevens pitched five innings and allowed two runs. Victoria Crovier pitched two innings of scoreless relief. In total, the two allowed seven hits.
Monday, May 16
The girls beat Wallkill 3-1 in a must-win game in order to keep playoff hopes alive. Pskowski pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits, striking out five.
Novak had three singles, Gabby Kurtz had two base hits, as did Megan Sanchez. Garcia and Kurtz each had an RBI, scoring Alexis Zamparelli and Novak. Garcia also scored a run.
As of Tuesday, the girls were in a three-way tie for first with Goshen and Port Jervis. Their record stands at 3-2 in the division and 9-7 overall.
Track and field
The boys and girls teams were in White Plains Friday and Saturday for the annual Loucks Games. Neither team scored any points. The results are as follows:
