Student finds pellet gun in village

On his way into school this morning, a Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School student spotted what looked like a real gun resting on top of the rock wall behind the gazebo in the village square. Concerned, the student called over a school security officer, who then asked a nearby police officer to investigate. What the officer observed was an air soft pistol which is capable of shooting plastic BBs or pellets. The officer called it a toy, but the gun looked real.

“At no time was anyone in danger; at no time was this on our school property,” said Superintendent Neal Miller.

Miller went on to compliment the actions of the “courageous” student who “took the initiative to let our security officer know. I really commend him for that. It was a really responsible thing for that young man to do.”

An e-mail is expected to go out to parents explaining the incident and dispelling any rumors the gun was real and on school property.
