John J. McGovern

January 9, 1933-February 25, 2016

John J. McGovern, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Feb. 25 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.  He was 83 years old.

The son of the late Thomas and Rose Phillips McGovern, John was born on Jan. 9, 1933 in Manhattan, N.Y. He was a retired Sanitation Engineer for the New York City Department of Sanitation in Brooklyn.

John is survived by his loving wife, Carole A. Malden McGovern; his sons, Brian J. McGovern of Brooklyn, Michael J. McGovern of Modena, N.Y., Daniel McGovern of West Virgina, Thomas M. McGovern of Brooklyn; daughters, Theresa G. McGovern of Ridgewood, N.Y., LeeAnn LaBriola and Eileen M. Mastrantuno of Greenville, N.Y.; and a sister, Agnes Eckert of Staten Island.

There was no visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 29 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  Interment followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saugerties.
