Members can contribute a lot to an organization without being conspicuous. At the Storm King Engine Company’s annual inspection dinner, Nancy Bryan gave the President’s Award to two people who have done a lot behind the scenes.
Both are long-time members of the organization. Stevie Johnson is the unit’s electrician. He cooks for every event and chairs the company’s RiverFest Committee.
Butch Cocks, who lives a half block from the fire house, stops in every day to see how he can help. He’s a member of four different committees.
When their names were announced, the honorees met at the front of the room and stopped to shake hands.
The company held its annual function at Mountainville Manor on Feb. 13. County Legislator Kevin Hines installed the officers after observing how the present resembles the past. There’s a Cuomo in the Governor’s Mansion, Pat Hines is still the Cornwall Fire Department Chief, Dick Randazzo has come back as supervisor and Jeff Armitage is once again the chief of the Storm King Engine Company.
Chief Armitage received a standing ovation when he was announced as the winner of the A.R. Cocks Award.
