Robert W. (“Lefty”) Everett
February 23, 1964-December 27, 2015
Robert W. (“Lefty”) Everett, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Dec. 27 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 51 years old.
The son of Helen V. Everett, Bob was born on Feb. 23, 1964 in New York City. He was a 20 year employee of the Town of Cornwall in the Sanitation Department. And he served his community as a long time devoted member of the Cornwall Fire Department.
“Bob was a great person,” his family said, “who would help anyone” He loved his family and was specifically proud of his son Kyle’s accomplishments. Bob loved to read and collect comic books as his pastime. He will be missed greatly by all.
Bob is survived by a son, Kyle Everett; a sister, Maria Everett-Sebesta, as well as an aunt, Jean Liveoak.
His family received visitors on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Thomas (“Tommy”) Joseph Popowick
September 22, 1936-December 28, 2015
Thomas (Tommy) Joseph Popowick, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Dec. 28 at his home. He was 79 years old.
Tommy was born on Sept. 22, 1936 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh to Frank Joseph Popowick, Sr. and Josephine Popowick (Pavlik).
He served his country as an Aviation Electrician Airmen 1st. Class in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959, and served aboard the Air Craft Carrier, USS Valley Forge and was honorably discharged in 1963.
Tommy was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 445 and retired from Provan Transport, Inc. in Newburgh in 1988. But, Tommy’s true passion was his love of vintage John Deere tractors, which he collected and restored. His other passion was his faith. He was a devoted Catholic, attending services at St. Francis Church, and was an avid member of the parish along with other family members.
Tommy was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends.
Tommy was the loving father of four with 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has asked that in lieu of floral arrangements, contributions in Tommy’s name be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. It was his favorite charity, and he was a life long supporter and contributor.
His family received visitors on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, in Cornwall-on-Hudson Burial with full Military Honors was held on Monday, Jan. 4 at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.
John B. Shay
July 14, 1986-January 1, 2016
John B. Shay, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 1 in New Windsor. He was 29 years old.
The son of Lorraine A. Mc Grath Tsopelas and John J. Shay, John was born on July 14, 1986 in Mount Kisco, N.Y. He was an installer for Solar City. His family said “He will be greatly missed.”
John is survived by his mother Lorraine A. Tsopelas and stepfather Phil Tsopelas; his father John J. Shay and his daughter Hailey Madison Aaron.
His family received visitors on Jan. 5 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 6 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson, with Fr. Rees Doughty officiating. Cremation followed at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
