Shortly before 1 p.m., a spark from a transformer caused a brush fire and power outage to over 2,000 residents living in the Town of Cornwall and Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson. The cause of the transformer malfunction is unknown, but Central Hudson is investigating. Officials estimate power will be restored around 4:30 p.m. The spark caused a small fire to about 50 feet of brush along the northbound side of Route 9W, just after the Willow Avenue bridge. One New York State Department of Transportation employee attempted to stomp out the flames prior to the arrival of Highland Engine Company.
