Two Dragon divers qualify for states
The season continues for Samantha Reichman and Julia Brice, as they travel to Ithaca for the statewide diving competition that begins on Nov. 20. They earned their trips by scoring over 440 points for 11 dives.
Sam, a senior, was the runner-up in the Section IX diving meet at Valley Central on Nov. 6. Julia, a freshman, finished fourth. The Dragons, with two other freshmen and a seventh-grader placing in the top 16, outscored every other school in diving.
In the overall scoring for swimming and diving, Cornwall was 10th out of 16 schools. Allison Dubick, an 11th-grader, had a big day — reaching the finals in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle. In a sport, where athletes improve by fractions of a second, Allison chopped a full second off her time for 50 yards and two seconds off her time for 100 yards.
Her performances in those events were the fastest by a Cornwall swimmer since 2008.

Girls and boys win cross country titles
After winning section titles, the boys and girls cross country teams are heading to the state meet on Nov. 14. And they don’t have far to go. The races will be held at Monroe-Woodbury High School, with the boys starting at 9:25 a.m. and the girls going off at 11:10.
The runners qualified for the trip down Route 32 with strong performances at Bear Mountain. The boys’ order of finish was scrambled from the previous week. Connor St. Germain was the first Dragon across the finish line. And he had plenty of teammates close behind him, as six Cornwall runners placed in the top 10.
Victoria Caroli won the girls race by 25 yards over Kayla Quarshie of Port Jervis. It marked the eighth straight year that a Cornwall runner had won the event. Previous champs were Aisling Cuffe (2008-10), Ashley Wallace (2011) and Beatrice Boylan (2012-14).

Pirates boot Dragons in state quarterfinals
The Cornwall soccer team struck first in the state quarterfinals against Pearl River. Jacob Schulman lofted a pass to David Germaine, who beat the center back and keeper for his 27th goal of the year.
After the score, the Dragons gathered briefly in front of the stands to hear the cheers from their supporters. A large Cornwall crowd had traveled across the river to see the Saturday game in Shrub Oak.
The Dragons almost rewarded them with another goal. They continued the attack, once hitting an upright in an attempt to take a 2-0 lead.
But the Pirates drew even in the second half on a kick grounded into the far corner of the goal. And with nine minutes remaining, the Section I champs took the lead following a throw-in that landed in front of the net.
Cornwall (15-4-1) had reached the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Vestal as Jacob Schulman tallied on a pair of direct kicks.
