On Oct. 2, the DEC granted a permit to the Village of Kiryas Joel to use its Route 32 well in Mountainville.
The DEC had hosted a hearing on the well on April 29, 2014. And the Village of Kiryas Joel responded to the public comments on July 16, 2015 — over a year later.
The response to comments can be seen at http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/103519.html.
“We concur with the Village of Kiryas Joel,” the DEC said, ” that the 72-hour pump test and hydrogeologic studies were performed in accordance with DEC protocols and guidance documents. These documents demonstrate to the Department’s satisfaction that the aquifer is adequately productive and will safely yield the proposed Mountainville Well No. 1 withdrawal amount (612,000 gallons per day) without interference impacts on sources of other users.”
