Bessie M. “Betty” Castelli

September 21, 1924-June 2, 2015

Bessie M. “Betty” Castelli, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on June 2 at Middletown Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Middletown, N.Y.  She was 90 years old.

The daughter of the late Salvatore and Marianna Santoro Campione, Betty was born on Sept. 21, 1924 in Monroe, N.Y.

Survivors include her husband, Vito J. “Will” Castelli; her son, Robert Castelli; her daughter Dianne Rothenberger and her husband John; and her three grandchildren: Zachary, Jamie and Jessie.

Her family received visitors on, June 6 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, in Monroe. A Funeral Mass followed at at Sacred Heart Church, in Monroe.  Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.

Robert (“Bob”) Edward Kuklis

1919-2015

Robert “Bob” Edward Kuklis, entered into eternal peace on May 23 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 95 years young.

Born in 1919 in New York City, he became a typesetter and printer. In 1942, at the age of 22, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He participated in the major battles of Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa as well as the clean up of Nagasaki, Japan after World War II.

When he returned in 1946, he married the love of his life, Theresa Nesnady and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on May 19. Bob and Theresa moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson in 1960.

He was an active member of St. Thomas of Cantebury Church, former member of the Sokols, former competitive gymnast and coach, a volunteer fireman in Tarrytown and a member of the Spur Riding Club in New York City.

He was a musician, jokester, and honorable man with a strong work ethic, a loving devotion to his wife and family, and a proud Marine veteran. He was an avid clockmaker, a photographer, and an exceptional jack-of-all-trades who would help anyone.

Bob is survived by his wife, Theresa Nesnady Kuklis; his daughters Johanna Sweikata and spouse Jim of Montgomery; Barbara Conroy and spouse, Kevin of Montgomery; and Mary Taylor and spouse, Scott of Peachtree Corners, Ga.; his grandchildren Jimmy Sweikata, Paul Satkowski, Adam Sweikata, JoAnn Sweikata, Ian Taylor and Ben Taylor; eight great grandchildren: numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law. Bob was predeceased by his parents, six brothers, and one sister.

Visitation was held on May 27 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 28 at St. Thomas of Cantebury Church. Burial with full military honors was at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

Allan J. Kuslansky

Allan J. Kuslansky, resident of Cornwall, N.Y. and Phoenix, Ariz., passed peacefully on May 30 surrounded by his family at the age of 70.

A 40-year resident of Cornwall, Allan was known as a loving father and husband, a respected attorney and a friend to all. He was a familiar sight walking his Sharpei dog at their favorite spot, Donahue Park, along the Hudson River.

He was a graduate of Hofstra University, UC Berkeley and Brooklyn Law School. He practiced Law in Orange County for forty years, was a member of Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh and a volunteer fireman with the Storm King Engine Company. His proudest accomplishment was establishing an organization for underprivileged children in Arizona called The South Mountain Kids, which gave hundreds of children the opportunity to attend Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamond Backs, and ASU games, as well as many other sporting events, as special guests.

Allan leaves behind a loving wife, three beautiful children, a son-in-law and a grandson who was the light of his life.

Salvatore Lucenti

October 4, 1923-June 6, 2015

Salvatore Lucenti, of New Windsor entered into eternal rest on June 6 at Westchester Medical Center He was 91 years old.

The son of Joseph and Carmella Lucenti, he was born on Oct. 4, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Sal was an entertainer and musician, who honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S.  Military .

Sal is fondly remembered by his family and friends as a loving father and grandfather, a very talented singer, guitarist and musician. He loved entertaining people and did what he could do to make people happy. God blessed him with a voice to share with others. He just kept tumbling along, entertaining folks with music he loved. He wanted to touch the lives of others by touching their heart with song. He will be missed greatly.

Salvatore is survived by his wife Margaret Lucenti; by his son Joseph Lucenti; daughters Carol Harrison and Dianne DiLorenzo; grandchildren Michael DiLorenzo, Vincent Deluca and Scott Luncenti; great grandchild Meagan Dilorenzo, daughter- in-law Cristina Lucenti, son-in-law Timothy Harrison, and nieces and nephews.

His family received visitors on June 9 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial  was held on June 10 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church with Fr. Andrew Kurzyna officiating. Burial  in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen followed the Mass.

Douglas E. Smith

November 17, 1956-June 6, 2015

Douglas E. Smith of Middletown entered into eternal rest on June 6 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 58 years old.

The son of  Martin E Smith Sr. and Josephine Randazzo Smith, Douglas  was born on Nov. 17, 1956 in Cornwall.

He was an associate with Mid-Hudson Auction  Galleries in New Windsor NY .

“Doug was full of life,” his family said, “and made everyone around him laugh and smile. He loved his animals, motorcycles and a good yard sale. He will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his beloved companion Carol “Casey” Partridge and her children Raquel Papa Futia and Dominick Papa; by his brothers Gary Smith and his wife Kathy of Cape Coral, Fla.; Martin E Smith Jr. and wife Marianne of New Windsor; Owen M. Smith and wife Charlene of Canastota N.Y., and sister Joanne Grant of Cornwall; by his grandchildren: Jerome, Rocco, Marco Futia and also Alexander Papa; by his nephews and nieces: Martin A. Grant  and Jennifer Grant, Anthony, Jason, Michael, and Kimberly Smith and Angela Smith Ohoppe.

His family received visitors on June 9 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A  funeral service was held on June 10 at the funeral home. Following the service, burial took place in St. Thomas Cemetery in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.
