Rose Marie Bender

December 8, 1923-May 31, 2015

Rose Marie Bender entered into eternal rest on May 31 at her home in Newburgh. She was 91 years old.

The daughter of Cosimo Avato and Anna Conforti Avato, she was born on Dec. 8, 1923 in Lyndhurst N.J. She was a retired seamstress.

“She will be missed greatly by her family and friends,” her family said. “And we will all miss her famous Italian Cooking.”

Rose Marie Bender   is survived by her husband George J. Bender at home; her sons Dennis Bender and his wife Anna of Cornwall and George Bender of Newburgh; by her sister Dolores Schuster of Albuquerque, N.M.; and by her grandchildren Bryan and Serena Bender of Cornwall.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sister: Tony Navarino, Gus Avato, Fritz Avato and Gloria Dobias, as well many nieces and nephews.

Her family was due to receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. It will be followed by burial at  Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Robert “Bob” Cobb

June 8, 1940-May 27, 2015

Robert “Bob” Cobb, longtime resident of the Hudson Valley, passed away on May 27.

The son of Dr. John R Cobb and Louise T Cobb, Bob was born in New York, N.Y. on June 8, 1940.

For many years, he ran a successful publishing services company in New York City. He was a long-time supporter of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum as well as the Storm King School where he was a board member for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, and when not enjoying the mountains around the Hudson Valley, he could be found on Indian Island, his family’s property on Belgrade Lakes in Maine.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Martha R Cobb; his cherished daughter, Amanda Leedom and her husband, Andy of Reisterstown, Md., his treasured grandson, Quinn, and his beloved sister and brother, Joan Boyce of Eugene, Ore., and Allen Cobb of Fairfield, Iowa..

Janice R. Gilmore

April 29, 1928-May 31, 2015

Janice R. Gilmore, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on May 31 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 87 years old.

The daughter of Charles F. Pagel and Jessie Haskin Pagel.  Janice  was born on April 29, 1928 in Newburgh. She was married to the late Robert J. Gilmore  who passed in 2001.

She was a telephone operator with NY Telephone in Newburgh. Later she worked with the Cornwall Central School District and with the Office of the Aging  at Munger Cottage in Cornwall.

She was an active member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church.

“Janice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.,” her family said. “She loved being with her family and many friends. She will  forever  be missed by her loving  family and by all who knew her.”

She is survived by her  sons Robert C. Gilmore and his wife Pat of Lakeland, Fla., and William A Gilmore of Cornwall; by her daughter-in-law Linda Gilmore of Lakeland, Fla. by her grandsons Robert C. Gilmore Jr and his wife Donna of Westbourgh, Mass. Randy W Gilmore of Lakeland, Fla., and Erick Lee Gilmore of Cornwall.  She was predeceased by a granddaughter Barbara Ann Gilmore.

Her family received visitors on June 3 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Pastor Julia Winward was due to officiate at  a funeral service at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 4. It was due to be followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.
