Geraldine Cocchiara

March 28, 1938-May 2, 2014

Geraldine Cocchiara, of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on May 2 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 76.

The daughter of George Krosunger and Ruby Gredel, she was born on March 28, 1938 in Nemacolin, Pa.

Geraldine Cocchiara was an Insurance Sales representative  for Sheridan Associates in Pearl River. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Windsor.

Working for ConEdison, she met and married the love of her life Anthony Cocchiara.  They moved to Nanuet, where they lived for many years raising their family.

After retiring, Geraldine and Anthony moved to Cornwall where they spent the last several years with new friends and visiting with long time friends that they met along their long happy life together.

Geraldine loved vacationing, going to Ixtapa, Mexico for many years and Newport, R.I. with Anthony.  They went on many cruises, and traveled extensively.

Geraldine also loved to play cards.  She played bingo several times a week, and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was always the life of the party.

Geraldine is survived by her daughters Dina Gage and her husband Kevin of Hurley and Toni Gallagher and David Ambrosini of Cornwall-on-Hudson; her brother Peter Krosunger of Rices Landing, Pa.; sisters Nancy Baily of Carmichael, Pa. and Jeanne Ventresca of San Jose, Calif.; granddaughter Amanda Horan of Monroe, and great grandson Oakley Anthony. She was predeceased by her husband  as well as by a brother and sister Gloria Broadwater and George Krosunger.

Her family received visitors at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson on May 6. A Mass of Christian Burial  was held on May 7 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Windsor,  with Fr. Dennis Dinan officiating. Burial  took place in the Orange County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.

Franklin David Lewis

June 2, 1965-May 2, 2014

Franklin David Lewis, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on May 2 in Newburgh. He was 48 years old.

The son of Jeana V. Csakany (née Guire) and David F. Lewis, Frank was born on June 2, 1965 in Cornwall.

Frank was a loving brother, uncle, grand uncle, and friend. He was known for his huge heart, unique spirit, and zest for life. His voracious sense of humor always kept us laughing and he was forever the life of the party. Frank enjoyed celebrating, cooking, reading, and doting on his nieces and nephews. He was always ready to lend a hand or comfort anyone in a time of need. Frank had an unusual eye for beauty and an extraordinary imagination that made him curious about life and its profound mysteries. He wasn’t constrained by the values of society and lived solely for the moment with intense playfulness and uninhibited abandon. Frank’s laughter was contagious and his charm and kindness touched many lives. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He is predeceased by his mother, Jeana Guire Csakany, stepfather, Joseph “Red” Csakany, and father, David Lewis. Frank is survived by his sisters Toniann Albertson, Rachel Smith, Helen Csakany Flint, and Jolene Csakany, nephews, Erich Schaefer and Kyle Flint, nieces, Corey Flint and Alex-Michelle Albertson, grand nieces Mackenzie Schaefer, Jade Schaefer, and Natalie Schaefer and grand nephew, Dominic Schaefer.

There will be a calling hour from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 12 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson NY 12520. A Catholic burial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at St. Thomas Cemetery on Mailler Avenue in Cornwall.

Ethelyn M. Stuhrmann

September 6, 1932-May 2, 2014

Ethelyn  M. Stuhrmann, of  Cornwall  entered into eternal rest on May 2  at Kaplan Family Hospice in Newburgh NY . She was 81 years old.

The daughter of John Sullivan and Ethel May, she was born on Sept. 6, 1932 in Cliffside Park N.J.

Ethelyn Stuhrmann  was a Bookkeeper  for Hasse Oldsmobile in North Bergen N.J. and a  member of  St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-On-Hudson.

“She was a loving mother and grandmother,” her family said,  “and she will be missed greatly.”

She is survived by her daughter Theresa Gangemi and husband Patrick of Cornwall; her grandchildren Alexander and Kevin Gangemi, Joshua Joseph and James Stuhrmann, and also Susan Cassidy; Great grandchildren Joshua , Liam, Rylynn, Lukas and Kolton, as well as a daughter-in-law Carm Stuhrmann.

She was predeceased by son and daughter James and Susan Stuhrmann
Visitation was private at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 7 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial took place on May 6 in Fairview Cemetery in Fairview N.J..

Peter R. Van Wygerden

January 7, 1959-April 29, 2014

Peter  R. Van Wygerden of Cornwall  entered into eternal rest on April 29 in New York City. He was 55 years old.

The son of  Peter Van Wygerden and Ingrid Schonfeld, Peter was born on Jan. 7, 1959 in Holland.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of  Criminal Justice. He was an MTA investigator with the Attorney General’s Office in New York City. He had previously retired from the New York Police Department (NYPD) as a sergeant.

“Peter was loving father and husband,” his family said. “He will be missed greatly.”

Peter  is survived by his wife Elizabeth Paluccio Van Wygerden, his mother Ingrid Van Wygerden of Staten Island; his sons, Karl and Justin Van Wygerden;his daughter Amilee Van Wygerden all of  Cornwall.

The family received visitors on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4  at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson.  A Mass of Christian Burial  was held on Monday, May 5  at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville. It was followed by St. Mary’s Cemetery in Washingtonville.
