John Anthony Burich
February 14, 1942-April 23, 2014
John Anthony Burich of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and formerly of Cornwall, entered into eternal rest on April 23 at Palm Beach Medical Center . He was 72.
The son of John Burich and Mary Barletta Burich, John was born on Feb. 14, 1942 in the Bronx.
John earned his Bachelor’s degree from Fordham University. He was the manager of the Storm King Golf Club Restaurant in Cornwall.
He was a coach for Pop Warner football, member of CCHS Booster Club, Dragon Football Association, President of Cornwall Little League and is on their Honor Roll, Little League Yankees Coach, and served on the Board of Directors of Storm King Golf Club,
John honorably served in the New York National Guard from 1964 to 1970.
He was an active member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister.
A family statement reads: “John took great pride in his family and their achievements, He lived for his wife, children and spouses and grandchildren. John constantly said his legacy in life was them.”
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeannine, at home, his daughter Jamee Brusseler and husband Chuck, his son John Michael Burich and wife Kristine. He was “Poppy” to Scott and Cassidy Brusseler, Elle and Emma Burich.
He is survived by his brother Ronald and sister-in-law Marcy Burich. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Burich.
The family received visitors at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall on April 28. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 29 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, and was followed by cremation in Cedar Hill in Newburgh.

Carmen Donato
July 16, 1929 – April 21, 2014
Carmen Donato, age 84, of Cornwall, a lifelong area resident, died on April 21 at home.
The son of Louis and Stella (Jodakis) Donato, he was born in Newburgh on July 16, 1929.
Carmen was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Local # 5 Bricklayers and Plasterers Union. He played semi pro baseball in the southern states and Cuba. He was a life member of Black Rock Fish & Game Club, a member of Bethlehem Rod & Gun Club and the Mid Hudson Wood Carvers Guild. He loved to bowl, play pool and baseball, and teach dancing. As a Cornish plasterer, Carmen worked in many local churches and historical buildings.
Carmen is survived by his loving wife Pamela Merritt Donato at home, his son Chris Donato and wife Julie of Cornwall, his daughter Kelly Galeas at home, his sister Mary Cappelli of New Windsor, sister in law Helen Merritt and brother in law Thurl Merritt of Newburgh.
He leaves behind three grandchildren; Michael Donato, Carina Donato and Nicolas Galeas and several nieces and nephews. Carmen was a special Uncle “T.T.” to J.D. and Shane Merritt and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother Allen Donato and brothers in law Roger Merritt and Humbert Cappelli.
His family said that Carmen was the best husband and father. After retiring, he and Pam were sextons of Union Church. They also delivered food, furniture and other items to the needy in the Newburgh area through Union Church.
The family received visitors on April 24 at the DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro.
Funeral services were held on April 25 at the Union Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, and was followed by burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middle Hope.

Eileen Jean Sullivan
January 11, 1919-April 25, 2014
Eileen Jean Sullivan passed away peacefully and naturally on April 25 at St. Cabrini’s Eldercare in Dobbs Ferry.
Born as Eileen Elizabeth Walsh on Jan. 11, 1919 in Rockaway Beach, she lived in Manhattan with her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Kelly Walsh.
She attended Good Council Academy and, in 1938, graduated at the age of 19 from Good Council College. Her yearbook caption read “Whose little body lodged a mighty mind.” She became a legal secretary at a Manhattan law firm where she met her husband, William Ambrose Sullivan Jr., an attorney who later was vice president of Ruppert Knickerbocker Brewery. They married in 1941.
Eileen had six children, and raised her family in Mamaroneck and Rye. She was a substitute teacher at Resurrection Grammar School in Rye, and a volunteer at the Good Council Alumnae Association. where she wrote the alumni newspaper.
Eileen and William retired to Cornwall in 1977, where she volunteered for St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and for REAL, an organization supporting the rights of special needs children.
Survivors include her children: Kathleen, Betsy, Neil and Clare Sullivan; grandchildren: Brian and Liam Sullivan, Regan Yankowski, Erin and Sara Sullivan, DDS; and great-grandchildren: Patrick and Jane Sullivan, Kayla and Jake Yankowski, Maggie, Will, Griffin and Lilly Sullivan. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Sullivan, Jr. and sons Brian Edward Sullivan and William A. Sullivan, III.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 4, from 2-5 p.m. at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. Inurnment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
