The girls’ second victory of the year was a carbon copy of their win on opening day. In both games, Taylor Lesinski scored the deciding goal in overtime.

The Dragons hosted Valley Central on Saturday morning, April 26, and held a slim 5-4 lead at the half. But the girls fell behind after the intermission and had to rally to draw even.

As regulation time ended, the Cornwall girls were attacking the visitors’ net.

The teams exchanged scores in the extra period to set the stage for the game winner. The Dragons went airborne, advancing down the sideline on four precision passes. But a throw to the center of the field missed its target and there was a scramble for the loose ball. Taylor got to it first, scooped it up and fired an overhand shot that entered the net about a foot above the ground.

The Dragons were ahead, but it was too soon to celebrate. The visitors moved downfield, lost possession, and regained it with 10 seconds remaining. That gave them enough time to attempt the equalizer. Their final shot whizzed past the goalie, but it was too late. The officials ruled that the buzzer had already sounded. In lacrosse, the ball has to be in the net (not in the air) when time runs out.

The win followed a 9-8 loss in Goshen, as the Gladiators scored the last two goals for a come-from-behind win.
