At approximately 1:30 p.m., Cornwall Fire Department was called to assist with a brush fire in New Windsor off of Forge Hill Road. The fire began in the woods on the west side of the Moodna Creek but 20 mile per hour winds quickly spread the fire to the east side of the creek. By 3 p.m. the smoke began to cross Route 9w toward the Town of Cornwall. Vails Gate Fire Department was called to assist New Windsor. Chain saws could be heard and volunteers armed with hoses could be seen through the smoke along the creek. It’s not known what started the fire.
