Leon Grable

June 9, 1948-February 21, 2014

Leon Grable departed this life on Feb. 21 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65 and a resident of Cornwall-on-Hudson.
The son of Joseph Bay Grable Sr. and Susie Mae Salad Grable, he was born in Deveraux, Ga. on June 9, 1948.

He devoted 40 plus years to the Federal Government at West Point and retired as a supervisor in 2011. He also successfully operated his own company for 40 years. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Newburgh.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 45 years Emma Gray Grable, his son Robert Stack Grable of New Windsor; his daughters Lenora Grable-Grant of New Windsor and Natashia Monique Grable of Cornwall-on-Hudson  and her fiance Timothy Price of Mt. Vernon; his grandson Hylton Earl Grant of New Windsor; his five sisters Josephine Grable Core, Betty Jean Grable Smith (both of Springfield, Ohio), Barbara Grable of Milledgeville, Ga., Rosa (E.K.) Winkfield and Gladys Cummings (both of Sparta, Ga.); his seven brothers Willie Davis (Margaret) of Akron, Ohio, Joseph Grable Jr. (Lannie), Tommy Lee Grable, Jimmie Lee Grable and Willie (Rick) Lee Grable  (all of Sparta, Ga.), Jerome Grable (Gladys) of Milledgeville, Ga. and Marvin Grable of Newburgh. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends, as well as the family pet, Tiger.

He was predeceased by his mother Susie Mae Salad Grable, his brother Elijah Grable and his sister Dorothy (Dot) Mae Grable Macklin.

Elder Thurmond Herring officiated at a Feb. 28 funeral service ar Mt. Carmel Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Newburgh. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.
