The Newburgh Ministry will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a dinner at Anthony’s Pier 9 on March 20. Four religious women founded the organization in a small storefront, where people could stop for coffee and explain their needs, Since then the ministry has expanded into a haven for the disadvantaged and homeless. Programs include a Play and Learn Center, a Jump Start for children, free medical screenings, free meals, summer excursions and a 19-bed shelter. “Above all,” a volunteer writes, “it’s a warm refuge where presence and service result in the miracle of transformation.”
Tickets for the gala can be purchased by calling 561-0070 or visiting www.newburghministry.org. For further information, call Betty Jurgens 534-9953 or Sister Norma at the ministry (561-0070).
