Michelle B. Goldfrank

Michelle B. Goldfrank died on Dec. 26 at her Cornwall-on-Hudson home in the company of friends and family. A loving spouse, mother of three, daughter, sister, and aunt to many nieces and nephews she built a warm and welcoming home for all who entered.

Michelle was active for many years with the Cornwall-on-Hudson School’s Kids Club and Drama Programs.  She was also a familiar sight in town while working on a ladder at her painting business.  While battling her illness she received an outpouring of friendship from the Cornwall community she was proud to call home for twenty years. Her fearless personality and calming guidance will be missed by all.

Dr. Barbara A. Harger

1939-2013

Dr. Barbara A. Harger, 74, of Honolulu, Hawaii died on Dec. 24 at St. Anthony’s Community Hospital, Warwick, N.Y.

The daughter of Arthur and Lillian Walker II, she was born in 1939. She married Edward Harger in June 1973, who died in April 1995.

She retired from the University of Hawaii as a Professor in July 2002.   Two of her greatest joys were her work with the Hawaii Stitchery and Fibre Arts Guild (previous Board President) and working on the Hawaiian Quilt Research Project (previous Board President).  She also enjoyed traveling with her friends, going to plays at the theater, watching volleyball/football, going on cruises and quilting conventions.

She is survived by her brother in Cornwall, Arthur Walker III and his wife Marybeth; her nephew Arthur Walker IV and his wife Heather with three children; her nephew Benjamin Walker and his wife Jessica with three children; her niece Kimberly Proulx and her husband Dave with four children; her niece Margaret Binzley and her husband Richard with two children; and her niece Denise Goddin and her husband John with two children.  She was predeceased by her parents Lillian and Arthur Walker II; her sister Cynthia and  her spouse Walt Chovanec; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Gloria Santoro Neale

February 26, 1925-December 20, 2013

Gloria Santoro Neale, a former Cornwall resident and a 1942 graduate of Cornwall-on-Hudson High School, died on Dec. 20 in Evanston, Ill. She was 88.

Gloria was born Feb. 26, 1925 in Montgomery, N.Y, the daughter of the late Loretta and Benjamin M. Santoro, owners of Santoro’s restaurant. A talented singer, she was a member of the choir of St. Thomas of Canterbury and graduated in 1946 from Syracuse University with a degree in voice.

Gloria was married to the late Thomas D. Neale and they were longtime residents of Larchmont, N.Y., and Virginia Beach, Va. Gloria was devoted to her volunteer work at the Women’s Guild of Saints John and Paul Parish in Larchmont, at New Rochelle Hospital, and at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison. She also served on the Board of Directors of Fordham Preparatory School in New York City.

She is survived by a son, Tim, of Alexandria, Va., a daughter, Sally Proesel, of Winnetka, Ill., two sisters, Sally Ryan of Cornwall and Natalie Ann Yachymiak of Brooklyn, Penn., a brother, Dr. Benjamin Santoro of Chatham, Mass., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers William and James Santoro.

A funeral service and burial are scheduled for Jan. 18 in Sag Harbor, N.Y.

Donald G. Scott

January 1, 1944-December 29, 2013

Donald G. Scott died at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital on Dec. 29. He was 69 and a resident of Cornwall.

The son of Raymond and Edna E. Courtright Scott, he was born in Middletown on Jan. 1, 1944. He was married to Dianne R. Martin Scott, and was retired after working as a systems analyst with International Paper in Tuxedo. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Newburgh and of American Legion Post #1796 in New Windsor.
Survivors include his wife Dianne R, Martin Scott at home; his son Aaron R. Scott and wife Stephanie of Allentown, Penn.; his daughter Rebecca Scott Magron and husband Jean-Philippe of Lebanon, N.J.; his brother Ronald Scott of Bloomingburg, N.Y. and his sister Constance Alfano of Elon College, N.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren Katelyn, James, Matthew, Amelia, Julianne and Elodie; and by his niece and two nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.
