John McGready

April 24, 1931-November 28, 2013

Master Chief Petty Officer John McGready (USN Retired), 82, of Fleming Island, Fla., lovingly known as “The Chief,” passed away on Nov. 28.

The son of John and Elizabeth (Snoddy) McGready, he was born in Belfast, Ireland on April 24, 1931, and grew up in Staten Island. He moved from Cornwall to Clay County, Fla. in 1979 and opened Insurance World in 1988. He had retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief.

He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his parents and by a son Kevin Richard McGready.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gloria McGready; by his children Robert J. (Pamela) McGready, James E. (Mechelle) McGready, Lynda B. (Don) Dapra, John “Jay” McGready, Brian D. (Begona) McGready, and Colleen M. (Spade) McQuade; by his  brother James McGready; by his grandchildren Elizabeth, Benjamin, Joshua, Nate, Jonathan, Samuel, Blake, Madison, Devon, Connor, Isabella and William; by his great grandchildren William, Mya, Meadow, Olive, Samuel, Gabriel and Alexander,

The family received visitors an hour before funeral services were held on Dec. 3 at New Grace Church in Fleming Island, Fla.

Helga G. Muller

August 12, 1937-December 1, 2013

Helga G. Muller, a 28-year resident of the area, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1 at The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh.  She was 76 years old.

The daughter of the late Steve and Alma Hinrichs Watley, she was born Aug. 12, 1937 in Bremen, Germany.  Helga was a retired Senior Savings Bond Clerk with the Federal Reserve Bank of NY in New York City.

Survivors include her daughter Joanne Carter and son-in-law Christopher Carter of New Windsor; her brother Nolan Watley of Decatur, Ga. and her three grandsons, Alexander, Andrew and Steven Carter.

The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m, on Friday, Dec. 6 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32 in Highland Mills. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at St. Anastasia Parish Church on Route 17M in Harriman. Interment will follow in the St. Anastasia Cemetery.
