Emergency units wait on Otterkill road for rescuers to bring an injured teenager out of the woods.

A Salisbury Mills rescue team brought a teenager out of the woods this morning after she jumped from the railroad tracks near the Moodna Viaduct.

The girl landed on a wooded slope that was still several feet above ground level. Because of the rough terrain, the rescuers used ropes to bring her off the incline.

Several fire, police and ambulance units rushed to Otterkill Road after receiving an emergency call at 10:16 a.m. They waited for more than an hour until the victim was brought out of the woods. It was rumored that she had broken her ankle after falling more than 40 feet.

The victim was alive, breathing and conscious when she was placed in an ambulance and rushed to a rendezvous with a helicopter. No trains went by while the rescue was in progress, because  maintenance was being performed elsewhere on the line.
