Bushmen bump off Dragons

Pine Bush scored three times in the final quarter tonight to defeat the Dragons 49-20. There were 10 touchdowns in the game, but the one that didn’t count got the most attention.

It occurred at the end of the first half. Mike White connected on a 52 yard pass to Marcus Lewis — a tall sprinter who high jumps in the off season. Lewis was knocked out of bounds on the two-yard line. With time remaining for just one play, White handed off to big Moiset Santos, who appeared to surge over the goal line before getting pushed back. One official put his hands up in the air, and the crowd roared. But either the spectators misread the signal or the officials reversed the call.

White completed four passes of more than 50 yards. The first was a floater over a wall of charging linemen. Kobe Thomas leaped to make the catch and then scissored through the defense to set up the Dragons’ first touchdown. Mike also threw scoring bombs to Louis and Chris Bauer.

The Dragons made some big stops early in the game, but were unable to contain the visitors in the closing minutes. The season opener was played in front of a large crowd in Cornwall.
