On Saturday, at noon, in Cornwall, several hundred community members — many of them children — gathered at St. Thomas of Canterbury Cemetery to join the national mission to place wreaths on graves of veterans buried there.
On Dec. 19, Cornwall will join other communities in observing Wreaths Across America. There will be a brief ceremony in St. Thomas Cemetery followed by the decoration of 332 veterans’ graves.
A light mist fell Saturday, but the mood was positive. About 40 volunteers gathered in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall to lay wreaths at the graves of those who served our country in the armed forces.
Dave Andryshak had a message for the crowd gathered around the monument at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. He said there are two deaths. The first occurs when we breathe for the final time. The second occurs when we are no longer remembered.
