Cornwall fans could sense the excitement before the boys basketball team sprinted onto the gym floor. There was a lot at stake when the Dragons hosted Goshen on Feb. 20.
The two high schools are 30 miles apart. But Cornwall and FDR have a connection. Lou Cioffi is filling in as FDR’s athletic director, after serving in that capacity in Cornwall for nine years.
Like a spirited distance runner, the Lady Dragons used a finishing kick to pull away from their opponents in the closing minutes of a Friday night basketball game in Goshen.
The Friday night game had just ended. Most of the spectators were still in the stands, as Joe McConville and the Monticello coach (Chris Russo) spoke briefly on the court.
Caroline Staudle became the 51st winner of the Butch Kent Memorial Award when she received the trophy and a scholarship check on June 17. The Kent Award is the highest honor given to a graduating Cornwall athlete.
