Janet A (Johnson) Gavin passed to her eternal reward on May 23, 2024 suddenly and peacefully. She was 87 years of age.
Born to James and Mary Johnson in NYC circa 1936, she is predeceased by them as well as her siblings: Gertrude, James, William and Thomas. She is also predeceased by her daughter Carolyn Marie (Gavin) Rizzo.
Survivors include her husband: Edward T. Gavin; sons: Edward J. (Kathleen) Gavin and Steven Gavin: daughter: Susan Gavin; sisters:
Marilyn Deitsch and Eileen Yoe; her 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
Janet was a graduate of Walton High School and former employee of Cornell Medical Center.
Janet was a fastidious and precise person who did not suffer fools, yet had love for all. She would say “love the sinner, hate the sin”. That was her credo.
Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment followed the Mass at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
