Join Susan Minier at Dec. 9 reception
Cornwall artist Susan Minier will display her works to the community at Leo’s Restaurant, on Quaker Ave., in the weeks ahead, with an Artist’s Reception planned for Saturday, Dec. 9 from 2-4 p.m.
She is a contemporary mixed media artist — “doing what I love, creating pictures with vibrant color, pattern, and texture using acrylic paint and collage”.
Her work ranges from semi-abstract to abstract expressionism.
“For me, making art is an adventure: exciting, challenging and satisfying,” Minier said this week. “I start with a broad intention, perhaps a color palette I want to explore or an emotion I wish to express, then, through experimentation and intuition, allow it to evolve into the painting it was meant to be. This complete freedom to create is what makes me feel alive. My desire is to make art from the deepest, most authentic parts of myself, to express all that I feel, and to connect with art lovers who seek paintings filled with authenticity, emotion and a touch of whimsy.”
Minier says she is inspired by photography, travel memories, and the patterns, colors, and textures of the landscape — ordered and chaotic, real and imagined.
“In past years, I created fabric and paper landscapes and still-life’s along with painted floorcloths,” she added.
Minier has had several solo art shows and has had various pieces published in an art textbook in Singapore and in Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine and on a calendar.
She enjoys teaching her passion as well — she’s taught collage classes at Mount Saint Mary College, Desmond Campus and at the Cornwall Public Library.
Her next Cornwall Library class is set for January 25.
“During the Pandemic, I studied painting with online classes from renowned artists Karen Stamper and Nicholas Wilton,” Minier says. “My work changed from collage to primarily working in paint.”
She works from a home studio, a space she shares with her husband and two cats!
