Threat to schools investigated

Cornwall Police and the Cornwall Central School District spent a portion of last weekend investigating what turned out to be a “non-credible” threat to local schools that was posted on the social media platform SnapChat.

Superintendent of Schools Terry Dade sent out an email to parents Monday. alerting them to the “troubling message”, which was traced back to a 13-year-old Cornwall Central Middle School student.

Dade had been notified on Sunday evening by CPD Chief Todd Hazard. Schools were open as usual on Monday; “appropriate consequences” were put in place for the student, based on the joint school/police investigation on Monday, Dade said Tuesday.

The CCSD works closely with local police, and Dade urges all students, staff and parents to always “report anything they deem suspicious” to school and police authorities.
