(Photo by Jason Kaplan) - On Monday night, before friends, family, and colleagues, John Peña was sworn in as sergeant of the Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Department. His father, John Peña, Sr. held a bible as Village Clerk/Treasurer Jeanne Mahoney conducted the ceremony. Peña’s mother, Jenny, pinned the shield on her son’s uniform. The promotion is provisional until he passes the sergeant’s exam in June and attends and passes the state mandated police supervisor school.

Athletic fields discussion dominates forum

About 30 concerned citizens attended the Communication Committee’s first capital project community forum last week. The meeting began with a quick overview of the project the Board of Education will be considering, and then was opened up for comments and questions from the audience. Page 1A

The physical appearance of Cornwall’s business district is slowly changing. A positive change is that several new businesses have filled the empty storefronts. It’s evidence that a lot is happening on Main Street and the surrounding area. Page 1A

The Shop Hop returns with new organizer

The last Shop Hop seems like ancient history. A lot has changed since then. We survived a lockdown and got used to wearing masks. New people moved into the community. Village tasks engineers with developing water improvement plan

During Monday night’s business meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a resolution authorizing the engineering firm of Pitingaro and Doetsch to assess the village’s infrastructure and put together a water system improvement plan at a cost of $88,000.  Page 3A

Long-time firefighter honored by county

Charles Tonneson, 82, has been active with Storm King Engine Company for over 50 years. Last month he was honored by Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and was among the recipients of the 2021 Meritorious Service Awards. Page 1B
