Scott grew up in the Sierra Nevada’s near his grandparents’ cattle ranch. Surrounded by majestic mountains, Scott fell in love with Mother Nature and all of her grandeur. His years on the ranch would be forever ingrained in his soul.
Scott’s parents instilled in him a strong work ethic for academics, work, and sports. He inherited his father’s love of baseball, which he played throughout college, and his mother’s love of family, which founded the credo that he passed on throughout his days: “love of family is the essence of life.”
Scott graduated high school in Arcata, CA, with academic honors and letters in two varsity sports. At UC Davis he enlisted in ROTC and continued to play baseball. After graduating in 1968 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Scott was ready to serve his country only to be honorably discharged due to an injury.
He started his 30 year engineering career at General Electric, and by 1969 he was relocated to Schenectady, NY, where he arrived in a record-breaking blizzard.
At his rugby team’s party in 1970, he spotted Carole Clark from across the room. They began dating and, due to Scott’s love of history, their first date was at Saratoga Battlefield. They married on August 18th, 1973 in Lake George, New York.
In 1978, Scott and Carole bought their first and only home in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, where they raised their four children and remained for 43 years. Scott was a committed family man and provider. He was a coach of his kids’ youth teams, and remained coaching for 20 years, becoming an inspirational mentor among the youth in his community.
Scott and Carole were active in their local Methodist Church. Scott loved giving sermons as a Lay Speaker, and for 9 years he ran the athletic program at Camp Quinipet on Shelter Is., NY.
Scott received his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. From St. Regis Paper Company to Champion International, Scott held several engineering management positions. He developed Process Control systems and presented them at industry conferences. In 1984, he was promoted to director at corporate headquarters in Stamford, CT.
After retirement, Scott found new gratification by teaching AP math and coaching soccer at Storm King School for 12 years.
Five grandchildren arrived within three-year’s time and Scott reveled in their playfulness. He loved fly-fishing, hiking, and being out in his rowing shell on Lake George.
Nothing was dearer to Scott than his family. He is survived by his wife Carole of almost 48 years and their children Kevin (wife Ann), Lanie (husband Russ), Kyle (wife Ashley), Darren, and five grandchildren: Tessa, Braydon, Molly, Hudson, and Caleb. As the patriarch, he enjoyed family gatherings, a good tequila, and sharing laughs.
Scott died on May 27th, peacefully in his own home, with his wife by his side. His family will miss him dearly and will cherish his memory.
