Orrin Leon “Lee” Babcock
March 6, 1940—January 30, 2021
Cornwall, NY
Orrin Leon “Lee” Babcock, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 30, 2021 at his residence. He was 80 years old.
The son of the late Orrin Geroe Babcock and Nellie May (Baisley) Babcock, Lee was born on March 6, 1940 in Cornwall, NY.
Lee was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator and Technician for NOVA Contracting in Newburgh, NY.
Lee was very fond of his childhood and spoke often about spending time working with his grandfather, Arthur and other relatives in Black Rock Forest. He spent time feeding the workhorses and mules, gathering tools and looking for fire hazards such as glass bottles that were a danger to the forest. He learned to drive a dump truck at 8 years old, after Arthur fashioned blocks onto the pedals and stacked the seat with pillows.
Lee was a life-long aspiring contractor, purchasing the shell of a house in Cornwall in 1973 and spending countless hours building it into a beautiful home with his wife, Ruth. When he wasn’t working on his home, he was in his garage, tinkering with his Model A Fords, or anything that had an engine. He loved to build, reconstruct and repair. He had an immense knowledge of construction, mechanics and local history, and will truly be missed by those that knew him. He had a special bond with his best friend and brother-in-law, Reuben “Sonny” Conklin and shared many adventures with him throughout his life.
Lee was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years: Ruth Marie (O’Dell) Babcock in 2016. He is survived by his children: Deborah Lee (Babcock) Monroe and her husband Timothy, Laurieann (Babcock) Skinner and her husband Laurence, and Brian Leon Babcock and his wife Yuko; his grandchildren: Adam and Shannon Monroe, Lee Laurence Skinner, and Bryce and Brady Babcock; his great-grandchildren: Brianna and Brody Monroe and Connor Peltack; and his sister: Joan Beverly (Babcock) Conklin. Lee was predeceased by his siblings: Ronald Geroe and Elting Traford Babcock.
Lee was laid to rest beside his loving wife, Ruth, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mountainville, NY.
Due to the public health concerns of the Corona Virus (Covid-19), memorial services for Lee will be held at a later date. Gerald “Jerry” Doering
June 18, 1927—January 15, 2021
New Windsor, NY
Jerry (Gerald) Arthur Doering, age 93, passed away in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Mountainville, NY to Walter and Reta Doering. He was one of eleven children, and he had fond memories of his childhood. He enjoyed swimming, ice skating, and, later, riding motorcycles. In 1944, his father helped him to buy his first motorcycle — an Indian Scout. This would begin Jerry’s lifelong passion for riding and collecting antique motorcycles.
Jerry married his neighbor and best friend, Kate. Their marriage lasted over seventy years. Jerry began his own electrical contracting company, working as an electrician for over 25 years. In 1967, Jerry helped his son, Ted start Ted Cycle in their family garage. In 2011, Jerry and Ted founded the Gerald A. Doering Foundation and the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh, New York to share their extensive antique motorcycle collection with the public. One of Jerry’s proudest achievements was his Indian Motorcycle Timeline, a collection of every Indian motorcycle that was in production from 1901 to 1954.
Jerry served on the board of directors of the Antique Motorcycle Foundation. He was a member of the Century Museum Village of Dutchess County, and an honorary lifetime member of the Black Rock Fish & Game Club in Mountainville, NY.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Kate. He is also survived by his son, Ted Doering and Ted’s partner, Jean Lara; his daughter, Anna Reinhard and Anna’s husband, Helmut Reinhard; his daughter, Christine Doering and Christine’s partner, Eugene Koloski; his beloved niece, Catherine Stack; his sister-in-law, Patricia Stack; his sister, Lois Terp; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His family extends special thanks to his caregivers: Mary, Milton, and Bani, as well as Dr. Edward Schneider and Father Jeffrey Maurer.
Jerry is predeceased by his infant son, Christopher; his brothers: Walter, Adolph, James, and William; and his sisters: Harriet, Lillian, Johanna, Helen, and Marjorie.
Those who knew Jerry will remember him as a kind, gentle, smart man who had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a best friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed and live in our hearts forever.
There was no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21 at St. Mary’s Church, Washingtonville, NY followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Jerry’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s church or the Motorcyclepedia Museum.

The charities were thoughtfully chosen to honor the life of our amazingly smart, unbelievably funny, and wonderfully unique Nana. Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh: Helping the elderly population maintain independence, dignity, and a healthy diet is a deeply important and impactful initiative. We all know how important it was to Nana to maintain her independence. As she got older, programs like Meals on Wheels helped make that possible by delivering meals to her on a regular basis. Volunteers for the Newburgh branch were incredibly kind and accommodating to Nana, and even checked in on her from time to time. www.mealsonwheelsnewburgh.org. Direct Relief: The tragedy of COVID-19 cannot be understated. Losing someone you love is difficult enough, but as 2.24 million families learned before us, we know that losing someone to COVID stings in a unique way. Direct Relief has devoted itself entirely to their COVID response and has done some amazing work over the last year. They’ve distributed PPE, medical resources, and emergency aid to hospitals, health clinics and the like. They’ve sent those same resources and equipment to under-served communities, and are working with public health agencies to improve vaccine distribution. They’ve put millions into emergency funding which has provided financial support to healthcare workers and helped fund community health centers. www.directrelief.org/emergency/coronavirus-outbreak.
