Violet L. Annan

January 15, 1921 – November 16, 2020

Violet Louise Squillace-Naparano-Annan passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 16. Violet led a full, active and joyful life. In her final years she was comforted and lovingly cared for by her youngest son, Larry Annan. The family owes him a debt of gratitude and cannot praise him enough for his devotion and acts of kindness.

Violet is predeceased by her parents: Frank and Mary Squillace; her brothers: Frank (Sonny), Nicholas (Nick) and Eugene (Geno); her sisters: Edith Marinuci, Vera Sileno, Francis (Fran) Mele and Mildred (Millie) DeCerbo; her husbands: John Naparano and Cyril (Cy) Annan; and son: James (Jim) Naparano.

Surviving family members include her children: John (Jack) Naparano, Violet (Dolly) Burke and Lawrence (Larry) Annan.  There are numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss their grandmother dearly.

She loved to sing, dance, play cards and travel.  She was an active and longtime member of Club 60, Cornwall Senior Citizens, New Windsor Senior Citizens and the wonderful Line Dancing Troupe, “The Silveradoes.” She performed for many years with the troupe at area retirement communities and many social events.

Due to current conditions and restrictions no services will be held. However, when conditions allow, the family will convene a “Remem-brance” occasion for all to attend.

If she could have, she would have given each of you one last hug and kiss on the cheek!

Albert C. Ashworth

May 22, 1940 -November 21, 2020

Cornwall

Albert C. Ashworth of Cornwall entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 21. He was 80.

The son of the late Clifford and Beatrice Merring Ash-worth, he was born on May 22, 1940 in Franklin, N.J.

Albert was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired as a driver for UPS and also for the DPW in Newburgh. Albert loved the Hudson Valley and being outdoors, gardening, going antiquing and traveling with his family. He was handy and could fix anything. His greatest love however, was for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: his wife Susan, at home; daughter Allison Schewtschenko, her husband Nick, and their children Bradley, Abigail and Nico; and daughter Laura Baldi, her husband Mike, and their sons Owen and Evan. Albert is also survived by his children from a former marriage: Patricia, Robert and Sandra.

Due to current public health concerns, there will be no visitation. Interment will take place in the spring.

Rosalee M. Mele

November 5, 1931 – November 23, 2020

New Windsor, formerly of Cornwall

Rosalee M. Mele, a lifelong resident of the area, entered into eternal rest on Nov. 23 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, New-burgh. She was 89.

Born on Nov. 5, 1931 in Cornwall, Rosalee was the daughter of the late Sarah (Colle) and Frank Garafalo of Highland Falls. She was the loving wife of John, mother of John and Tina, and a grandmother of four.

Rosalee owned Rosalee’s Beauty Salon in Cornwall-on-Hudson for more than 20 years. She was also past-president of Cornwall High School PTA and past member of the Board of Directors of the old YWCA. Rosalee was a retired teaching assistant for the Cornwall Central School District, working at both Lee Road and Willow Avenue Schools, where she was vice-president of the Cornwall Para Professional Union as well as building rep and treasurer.

Rosalie’s hobbies included pastel painting and crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader of mystery novels.

Rosalee is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, John. She is also survived by her daughter Tina Reilly and her husband John, her son John and his wife Kathleen, and her grandchildren Ariel, Deanna, Alexander and Stephanie Mele.

Visitation was on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Middle Hope.

George Eddy Parker

September 2, 1936 – November 16, 2020

Cornwall-on-Hudson

George E. Parker passed away at home on Nov. 16. His wife and sons were by his side. He was born in Boston, Mass. to Rev. George Gerald Parker and Martha Jane Eddy Parker.

George grew up in Manhasset on Long Island, attended Cornell School of Architecture and graduated from William Jewell College in Missouri. He received a master’s degree in Public Health/Hospital Administration from Yale University School of Medicine. After working several years in hospital administration, 11 of which were at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, he returned to his love of woodworking and opened a cabinetry shop in Newburgh. Pieces of his furniture, cabinets and architectural works can be found throughout the Hudson Valley. The Parker house is a mini-museum, filled with George’s creations of furniture, stained glass and artwork. His calligraphy has also left lasting impressions in cards, letters, signs, and notices.

George was truly a “gentle man” in every sense. People appreciated his knowledge, wit, wisdom and generosity. His thoughtful words and counsel impacted many. His work on Earth is finished and he is now at rest.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Roberts); his sons Jonathan and his wife Aileen Zerrudo of Oakland, Calif.; and Christopher and his wife Elizabeth Felling of Fulshear, Texas, and his brother John and his wife Denise of Scituate, Mass. He was the proud grandfather of Carson, Kyle and Emma Parker.

The family plans to have a private gathering to celebrate George’s life sometime in the future.
