Gary “Garry” G. Johnson

March 19, 1951 – October 6, 2020

Cornwall

Gary “Garry” G. Johnson, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Oct. 6 at The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 69 years old.

The son of the late George Alfred Johnson and Melva Colleen (Taylor) Johnson, Garry was born on March 19, 1951 in Suffern.  

He earned his Master of Acupuncture degree from Tri-State College of Acupuncture after retiring from carpentry. He was a longtime member of the Cornwall Independence Day Committee.  “Garry made an impact on everyone who met him,” his family said. “He was a multi-talented autodidact with an artistic soul. Hard-working, resourceful, and self-reliant, he had a particular sense of humor and outlook on life. Dad always signed off with a hearty kiss: ‘mwah!’ He will be missed greatly”. 

Garry is survived by his stepmother: Barbara Johnson; ex-wife and caretaker: Victoria A. Johnson; his daughters: Katherine and Victoria; and his son: Garry II. He was the proud grandfather of Benjamin, 9 and Lydia, 4. He is also survived by his siblings: Debbie Trotz, Cheryl Mullen, Teri Popkave, Eric Johnson, Elisa Mcguire, Julie Clegg, Richard Clegg, Cindy Potters and Lizabeth Bloom; cousins, nieces, nephews; life-long best friend, Rick Raymond; and his beloved dog: Lola.

Richard T. Walsh

December 3, 1920 – October 5, 2020

Poughkeepsie, formerly of Cornwall

The son of the late Robert H. Walsh and Mary (Kelliher) Walsh, Richard was born on Dec. 3, 1920 in Boston.

He graduated from high school in Oceanside, N.Y. and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at SUNY Cortland and his Master’s Degree at Columbia University. He was a physical education teacher, coach, and director of athletics for the Cornwall Central School District.

Richard honorably and proudly served his country from 1939 to 1946 as a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, earning a rank of captain. He was an active sportsman, being a member of Storm King Golf Club, Newburgh Country Club, and Otterkill Country Club over the years. He was a sports official in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He coached Cornwall-on-Hudson High School to league championships in soccer and baseball. He also coached basketball at Cornwall-on-Hudson and was the first football coach at Cornwall Central. He enjoyed playing tennis, baseball, and bowling.

Richard was most at home on a course, a field, or on a court. He was a loving and proud husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed greatly.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Lucille (Hannon) Walsh at home; his son: Terence Walsh and his wife Loretta, of Poughkeepsie; and his grandchildren: Conor Walsh of Poughkeepsie, Olivia Walsh Convery and her husband Joseph of Drexel Hill, Penn., and Madeline Walsh of Grimsby, England. Richard was predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law: Shaun P. and Amanda Walsh.
