Mary Rita Galvin

April 8, 1923 – September 10, 2020

Cornwall

Mary Rita Galvin of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Sept. 10 at Park Manor Rehabilitation & Healthcare in the Town of Wallkill. She was 97 years old.

The daughter of the late Harry L. Pellington and Genevieve (Leinhart) Pellington, Mary was born on April 8, 1923 in Orange, N.J. She married the love of her life, Robert on June 22, 1946. They celebrated 63 years together.

Mary retired after working as a secretary for Sunshine Biscuit Co. in Newburgh. She and her husband were active members of the VFW in the town of Newburgh. They also spent many days volunteering at Castle Point VA Medical Center.

“Mary loved to knit, read and listen to her record albums,” her family said. “She will be missed greatly.”

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert James Galvin and sister Helen Evans. She is survived by her son Robert L. Galvin and his wife Roxanne (Satterly) of Cornwall; granddaughters: Melissa Gokey and Heather FitzHarris; and great-grandsons: Tyler Wilkinson, Adrian Gokey and Aedan FitzHarris.

Gilbert N. Griffin

January 11, 1939 – February 14, 2020

Cornwall

Gilbert N. Griffin of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Feb. 14 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 81 years old.

The son of the late Roy Griffin and Genevieve (Trevorah) Griffin, Gilbert was born on Jan. 11, 1939 in Cornwall.

Gilbert was retired from the US Postal Service. He honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. Gilbert was an active member of the Cornwall chapter of the Hibernians and the Black Rock Fish and Game Club. He will be remembered for his generosity and wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his cousins: Alice Joy Jennings, Keith Jennings and Cynthia Jennings.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21 at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.

William E. Lark Sr.

April 22, 1928 – September 13, 2020

Cornwall

William E. (Bill) Lark, Sr., a longtime resident of Cornwall, entered into rest on Sept. 13. He was 92.

The son of the late Harry F. Lark and Helen R. Rose Lark, he was born on April 22, 1928 in Fort Montgomery.

Bill was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He retired from the USMA Dept. of Public Works Housing Division after 36 years of service. He was secretary/treasurer of Section 9 High School Volleyball Association for 20 years and was one of the top rated volleyball officials before retiring at 83 years old. His name is on the sportsmanship award banner given each volleyball season.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Bill was a lifetime member of Black Rock Fish and Game Club. He was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching games. He also loved spending the winter months in Dunedin, Fla. with his wife Georgina.

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who cherished his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 67 years, Georgina; his three sons: William Jr. (Christine) of Daniel Island, S.C.; Richard (Patrice) of New Windsor and Jeffrey of Poughkeepsie; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
