Richard L. Nielson

June 6, 1989-April 29, 2019

New Windsor

Richard L. Nielson of New Windsor entered into rest on Monday, April 29. He was 29.

The son of Richard C. and the late Victoria Nielson, he was born on June 6, 1989 in Nyack.

Richard was a 2007 graduate of Cornwall Central High School. He received his associate’s degree from Orange County Community College. He loved music, his guitar, and he had a great sense of humor. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: his father, Richard C. Nielson; sisters Cheryl and Sarah Nielson; brother Philip Nielson; grandmother Margaret Nielson; stepmother Felicia Nielson; plus many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Victoria Nielson.

Visitation was held on May 4 at James F. Lulves Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Interment was private and at the convenience of the family.

Deanna Prisco

formerly of Fort Montgomery

Deanna J. Prisco, died peacefully on May 4 following a brief illness. She was 78.

The daughter of Walter and Mary (nee Shafer) Young, Deanna was born and raised in Fort Montgomery. She graduated from Highland Falls High School in 1958 and held a masters degree from SUNY New Paltz.

She is predeceased by sisters Betty Sevik and Eileen Reynolds, and has one brother Walter (Sandy) Young, living in the state of Washington. She leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law Kevin and Cheryl Conero of Montgomery and David and Judith Conero of Shawangunk. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Steven & wife, Kayla, Nikki, Allison, Andrew & Eric Conero; and two beloved great-grandchildren, Aubree & Steven Patrick Conero.

“Mrs. Prisco” was a beloved fourth grade teacher in the Highland Falls School District for 30 years who left a lasting impression on an entire generation of local schoolchildren.

As a fierce advocate for environmental preservation, Deanna spent a longtime supporting and leading the efforts of the Orange County Land Trust, serving as president of OCLT from 2008-2010. For more than 30 years, Deanna was also an active member of the Otisville Presbyterian Church, where she served among the Elders and Deacons, and also as a caregiver for the Stephen Ministry. Her love for gardening was expressed in her long-time membership of the Otisville Country Garden Club and in her own beautiful gardens, and she enjoyed spending quiet time in nature at her camp in Sidney Center, NY.

A memorial service will be held on June 2 at 2 p.m. at the Otisville-Mt Hope Presbyterian Church, 25 Main Street, Otisville.

Chelsea Desiree Powell

November 21, 1989– April 13, 2019

Highland Falls

Chelsea Powell, a lifetime area resident passed away unexpectedly on Saturday April 13, in Newburgh. She was 29 years old.

The daughter of Richard A. Powell Jr. and Laura Deford Powell, Chelsea was born in Suffern.

Chelsea was a free spirit who loved animals, nature, making jewelry and attending music concerts (She was a hippie at heart.) She was a member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation and enjoyed dancing at pow-wows with her family. Chelsea also loved spending time with her son William.

She leaves to cherish her memory her parents father Richard A. Powell Jr. (wife Linda), mother Laura Deford Powell, maternal grandparents James P. and Frankie Deford, paternal grandparents; Richard A. Sr. and Addie Powell, lifelong partner, William F. Schaeffer Sr., son William F. Schaeffer Jr., brothers Richard A. Powell III and Shane Johnson, sisters Taylor Barnett and Faith Powell. She also leaves three aunts, three uncles, many cousins and a host of friends

A celebration of life ceremony took place on Saturday, May 4 at the American Legion Post 633 Hall, 134 Old State Road in Highland Falls.
