Gladys T. Calvetti

Gladys Tinkler Calvetti entered eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 7 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. She was 87 years old.
Gladys was born in 1931 in Florida to the late Walter (Tommy) Lewis and Janie Lee Tinkler. She graduated from high school in 1948, Florida State University in 1953 with a B.S., and Long Island University-CW Post in 1982 with a Masters in Library Science. During her education at FSU, she studied the art of fencing and finished at the top of her class. She also met a gymnast, the late Joseph Anthony Calvetti, whom she married in 1953.
She and Joseph made Highland Falls their home and for 21 years, Gladys was a Special Collections and Cataloging Librarian at the West Point Cadet Library at the U.S. Military Academy. She was a skilled dancer, starting from the age of three through her adult years and ending as part of the Weslyan Dance Group with the Grace Methodist Church in Newburgh. She was also part of the National AAU-Gymnastics team after college which won first place in a 1953 team drill competition.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1986 and her first son Michael in 2011. She is survived by her three remaining sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren, plus her long time dear friend John of 40 years.
A Memoriam will be held after cremation with a burial date at the convenience of the family.

Theresa J. Cornish

Theresa J. Cornish, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, a life-long resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 4, , surrounded by her loving family. She was 47.
Born in Newburgh, on March 16, 1971, Theresa was the daughter of Joseph and Patricia (Stanko) Cornish. She was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and also attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Theresa worked as a supervisory chemist at the United States Mint in West Point for over twenty years.
Theresa died after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. She enjoyed shopping, traveling to new destinations, her commute to work over Storm King Mountain and her walks along the shores of the Hudson River in search of the perfect heart shaped rock. Most of all she enjoyed laughter with her friends, co-workers and family. Her smile and infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Joseph and Patricia Cornish, boyfriend Steven Manganello of Cornwall-on-Hudson, her brother Joseph Cornish of Boston, and her beloved cat Johnny.
Her family received visitors on Dec. 9 at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 10, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church and was followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.

Kevin B. Keegan

Kevin B. Keegan passed away at the age of 88 on Dec. 9 at Sapphire Nursing Home at Meadow Hill in Newburgh.
The son of the late Catherine (Lewis) Keegan and James Keegan, Kevin was born on Feb. 28, 1930 in Cornwall.
Kevin was retired from The Evening News, Newburgh, and was an honorary member of Highland Engine Co. #1, in Cornwall.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne B. (Hunt) Keegan; his son Kevin Mark Keegan (Donna); and grandsons: Justin Keegan and Max Keegan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kevin was predeceased by his siblings: John, James and Thomas Keegan, Veronica Patterson, Mary Ferguson and Ann Palermo.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Interment will follow the Mass at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.

Peter J. Lena Sr.
May 13, 1944-October 22, 2018
Formerly of Cornwall
On Oct. 22, Peter J. Lena Sr. slipped peacefully into eternal rest at the age of 74. By his side was his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia (Finnegan) Lena.
The son of the late Nicholas Lena and Philomena (Rocconova) Lena, Peter was born on May 13, 1944 in New York City. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Lena.
His journey leaves behind his daughter Kathleen Lena, son Peter Lena Jr. (Paula), sister Mary Gerbes (Frank),, brother: Nicholas Lena; and sister-in-law: Faith Lumpkin (Paul). Greatly missing him are his five granddaughters: Patricia Byrd (Bryan), Nicole Thompson (Andrew), Marlena Smith (Devin), Jessica and Julie Lena, and grandson Pfc David Lena; as well as five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pete’s dream was to light the world starting at Lightron of Cornwall and ending at Kramer Lighting, Middletown R.I. While living in Rhode Island he and Pattie owned and operated a retail lighting shop.
As president of the Cornwall Business Association, he and Mel Penn initiated the Annual Cornwall Sidewalk Sale (which is now the Fall Festival). He was also president of Lions Club (Cornwall) where he began the Hole in One Tournament.
While living in Americus Ga, Pete was one of the founding members of a Knights of Columbus chapter.
A Christian mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Edward B. Norey
March 21, 1927-November 29, 2018

Edward B. Norey of Cornwall-on-Hudson entered into eternal rest on Nov. 29 He was 91.
The son of the late William and Mary Pazenski Norey, he was born on March 21, 1927 in Brooklyn. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II.
Ed and Irene Gasiorowski married on May 15, 1949 at Our Lady Of Consolation Church, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They resided in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn before moving to Pearl River in 1966 and Cornwall-on-Hudson in 1986.
Ed worked forty years for Bell Telephone Co. in Manhattan and Westchester beginning as a splicer helper before advancing to second line foreman and supervisor of Galvo Division. He coordinated the rebuilding of Manhattan’s phone service after the Second Avenue Fire in the mid 70s. As a consultant, he oversaw the laying of fiber optic cable in the State House in Albany.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, his three children: Mary Diane Lynch and her husband, Robert; Edward J. Norey and his wife Victoria, and Virginia Norey; six grandchildren: Daniel Lynch and his wife Elaine, Erica Koza and her husband Edward, Louise Lynch-O’Brien and husband Peter O’Brien, Edward J. Norey and wife Tanupreet Suri Norey, Danika Norey McCann and husband James McCann, Mary Norey-Miceli and husband Joseph Miceli, and five great-grandchildren: Liam, Adeline, Sandra, Clarence, and Olive.
Visitation was held on Dec. 2 at James F. Lulves Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 3 at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh and was followed by interment in St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall.
