Peter J. Legg

Peter J. Legg of New Windsor (formerly of Beacon) entered into eternal rest at the Kaplan Family Hospice Center on Sept. 9. He was 62 years of age.
He spent his early childhood in the Bronx and relocated to White Plains as a teenager. He was a graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School. Peter honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.
He was a self-employed landscaper and arborist. Peter was an avid outdoors man, who loved fishing and hunting. He was a kind and caring person who loved his family.
Peter was the son of the late John R. Legg and Mary Anne (Gillespie) Legg. He was predeceased by his sister: Sally D’Alora and brothers-in-law: Daniel D’Alora and Robert Multari.
Peter is survived by his brother: Raymond J. Legg (Lake Worth, Fla.); his sisters: Mary Multari (Milford, Penn.), Patricia Marinan and Mary Mulligan (Cornwall); nephews: Robert Multari (Milford), John D’Alora and fiancé Leigha Edwards (Ohio), Michael and Michelle Marinan (Cornwall), Jeffrey and Jessica Marinan (New Windsor); nieces: Trisha Marie Multari and Mehdi Elyousfi (Queens), and Jennifer and Michael Serafin (Cornwall); grand nieces and nephews: Nick, Julia, Ashlynn, Michael, Gwen, Sofia, Charlie, Iollan, and Olivia.
Memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in Peter’s name to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Peter John Melnick
Died Sept. 11, 2018
Mountainville
Peter John Melnick, of Mountainville entered into eternal rest on Sept. 11 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, in Newburgh. He was 72.
The son of the late Jacob Melnick and Mary (Kastas) Melnick, Peter was born in Jersey City, grew up in Park Ridge, N.J. and graduated from Pascack Hills High School. He joined the Army in 1968 and was stationed at Fort Benning, before being sent to Vietnam, where he distinguished himself by exceptional heroism while serving as a cannoneer. He received the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for his bravery. Pete was proud of his country and service. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
After the service, he started JPM Construction. He was a master at his craft who had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. The people who worked with him would say he was funny and inspiring. He was a supportive, understanding father who gave great advice and would offer help whenever he could. Unfortunately, years later, deteriorating health and ailments from Agent Orange exposure would take his life.
Pete will be deeply missed by his family and friends and by all who knew him and loved him.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Simone (Barnosky) Melnick; his sons: Gregory T. Melnick and James P. Melnick; his adoring granddaughter: Sierra; and his sister: MaryAnn Hult. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his siblings Joseph Melnick and Joan Manna.
Visitation was held on Sept. 14 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A funeral service took place on Sept. 15 at the Mountainville United Methodist Church and was followed by interment with military honors at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.

Charles Piccininni

Cornwall
Charles Piccininni, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest on Sept. 11 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 92.
The son of the late Dominick Piccininni and Antoinette (DeVito) Piccininni, Charles was born on Oct. 8, 1925 in Manhattan.
Charles was a retired Meat Department Associate for Grand Union and various other supermarkets. He was also retired from Kraft Foods. He enjoyed his retirement working as a greeter for the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball team and as as an attendant at many sporting events at West Point. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with, welcoming and assisting people in both of his “post-retirement” jobs.
Charles honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
“He was kind, generous and loving,” his family said. “He will be missed greatly.”
Charles was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Piccininni. He is survived by his sons: Paul Piccininni and his wife Marie, Dominic Piccininni and his wife Frances and James Piccininni and his wife Judy; his brother: Jack Piccininni; his loving companion: Beverly Donato; his grandchildren: Dominic Piccininni, Angela Laskowski, Catherine Piccininni and Daniel Piccininni; his great-grandchildren: Derek and Arianna Laskowski; he was a loving Pappaninni to Madison, Marianna, Maya, Kaylee, Elisabeth, Sarah, Kyle and TJ. Charles was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, Ann and Esther.
Visitation was held on Sept. 17 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home in Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 18 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson, and was followed by interment with military honors at St. John’s Cemetery in Goshen.
