Richard D. Lytle, Sr.

June 5, 1925 – August 16, 2018

formerly of Highland Falls

Dud was born in Kutztown, Penn., one of five sons (Clyde, Fenner, Roan and George) of the late Clyde and Clara Lytle.

He was a graduate of Kutztown High School, Kutztown’s Teacher College and Temple University. He was a veteran of the Navy, but worked for the Army at West Point as a civilian for over 30 years. Most of those years were spent managing and teaching at the craft/hobby shops. Although some nick named him The Grouch, others remember him as always joking and smiling and helping countless novices turn old antiques into treasured heirlooms. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Highland Falls and got to ring the church bell calling everyone to worship on Sundays.

Upon retirement from West Point, he worked part time at Durham’s Auto Shop doing this and that to get his social security quarters established. After Shirley retired, they moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

The last four years he and Shirley were in Hamburg, Penn. residing with his grandson Tim, his wife Katie and their six children of whom he was William’s best friend.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; two sons Rick (Deb) of Zionsville, Penn.; Brooke (Jane), of Butler, NJ; and daughter, Cindy (Bobby Tripp) of Houston, Tex.; two grandchildren; Tim (Katie) and Jesse (Jeannie); and six great-grandchildren; Ella, Lucy, Bo, William, Millie and Clara.

Dud was laid to rest in Kutztown next to his parents and near his brothers.
