A funeral Mass for John A. Romaine 80 of Palm Coast, Fla. was celebrated on Monday, August 13 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, in Palm Coast.
The family receive friends on Aug. 12 in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach. Burial was in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Mr. Romaine, a resident for the past 20 years coming from Cornwall, passed away on Aug. 8 in the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born in Manhattan in New York City on Aug. 17, 1937 a son of the late John and Netta Boris Romaine.
Mr. Romaine was a retired District Sales Manager for Nationwide Insurance. He was a veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Air Force. A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, he served as a Eucharistic minister and an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed flying model airplanes and playing golf. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his wife of 56 years Therese (Donovan) Romaine, four sons, John and his wife Terrie, Gregg and his wife Paula, Tim and his wife Deanna, Gary and his wife Jennifer, eight grandchildren, Zachary, Justin, Alexis, Christian, Marissa, Savannah, Jake and Ben, one great grandchild, Jane Catherine, and his sister, Madeleine Hassett. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House (150 Memorial Medical Parkway), Palm Coast, Fl 32164) or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Max H. Stroppel, Sr.

Highland Falls
Max H. Stroppel, Sr., a lifelong resident of Highland Falls, passed away Monday, Aug. 6 at home with his loving family by his side. He was 92 years old.
Son of the late Max K. and Sarah M. Diller Stroppel, he was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Highland Falls.
Max was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII and aboard the USS Glennon during D-Day. He was a retired NYS trooper out of Stony Point. He was a former member of Palisades Interstate Park Police Pistol Team, and a careerlong member of the Policeman’s Benevolent Association. Max started the Park Police Diving Team and was the recipient of the NYS Award of Valor for his rescue of a fisherman who had fallen through the ice in Lake Tiorati.
He was a member of Post Chapel, and a co-founder and director of God’s Gang of West Point. Throughout his life, Max was dedicated to his family. During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and taking annual salmon fishing trips to Alaska.
Survivors include his wife Ella Wilson Stroppel, at home; loving children: Max H. Stroppel, Jr. and wife Brenda of Cornwall, Debra McCormack-Graziano and her late husband Robert of Middletown, Terrie Hoelscher and husband Steve of Harpers Ferry, WV, Rhonda Flanagan and husband Tom of Kingsland, Ga., Scott L. Stroppel and wife Shannon of Atlanta, Ga.; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Max was predeceased by his brothers Charles “Chuck” Stroppel and Frederick “Ted” Stroppel.
