Robert W. Caudy

February 10, 1919-June 24, 2018

New Windsor

Robert W. Caudy of New Windsor was called to be with the Lord on June 24 at NYS Veteran’s Home in Montrose.  He was 99.

The son of the late Raymond and Bessie Caudy, he was born in Emmonsburg, N.Y. on Feb. 10, 1919.

Bob proudly served his country in WWII in the Merchant Marines.  Prior to that, he worked for his father in construction and later worked for the New York-New Haven Hartford Railroad.  After the war he worked with the Operating Engineers Local 825. He also worked for the Town of Cornwall Highway Dept.

Bob was a past member of Vails Gate United Methodist Church and Grahamsville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a life member of Black Rock Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed watching professional sports on television. Bob was generous with his time, always willing to help others.

A highlight of his life was going on Honor Flight #3.  He was met by his grandson Michael Caudy, who spent the day taking him around the memorial.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 72 years, Helen; daughter, Cheryl Gould and husband William of New Windsor; son, Roger Caudy and wife Carol of Lexington, S.C.; six grandchildren: Keely, Brendan, Ryan, Michael, Lara and Daniel; seven great-grandchildren; and  his brother Victor Caudy of Hilton Head Island, S.C.  He was predeceased by brothers John and Kenneth Caudy.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. A reception will follow. Interment will be in the Orange County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, at the convenience of the family.

Virginia Gagliardo

August 30, 1928 – July 20, 2018

Highland Falls

Virginia Gagliardo (Castorina), 89, of Highland Falls, passed away Friday, July 20 with her children at her side.  She was the loving wife of the late Anthony J. Gagliardo for 63 years.

Virginia was born in New York City’s Lower East Side on August 30, 1928, daughter of the late Georgia (Caltaldo) and Vincent Castorina. She was a graduate of a New York City public school that specialized in fashion design. After graduation, she worked at Bonwit Teller and Henri Bendel, in the millinery department and as a fit model.

During that time, through her best friend, she met her husband and after a whirlwind romance of eight months, he whisked her off to Crailsheim, Germany.  She then transferred with her husband to Georgia and Governors Island, finally settling in Highland Falls. She exercised her extraordinary seamstress skills during a 10-year career at West Point.

After retirement, she enjoyed her many friends in the area. She volunteered at the church thrift shop in Highland Falls and the West Point Catholic Church, keeping the rectory organized as well as other tasks. She became a regular of the ladies Friday lunch group.

She is survived by her son Frank of Waterbury, Conn. and daughter Susan of Cornwall-on-Hudson. She is predeceased by brothers Jim and Al and sisters Rose, Mary, Angela, Marie, and her oldest sister, Merutta, who died before the family emigrated to the United States. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and extended family of her life-long friend, Ann Koenig, of Howard Beach.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 26 at Sacred Heart Church, Highland Falls.  She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kingston.

Kyle Keighley

September 12, 1959 – June 21, 2018

formerly of Highland Falls

Kyle Keighley, a resident of Ocala, Fla., died June 21. He was 58.

The son of the late George A. Keighley and Anne Balem Keighley Lewis, he was born September 12, 1959 in the Bronx. He attended Bronx High School of Science and relocated to Highland Falls and later to Ocala, Fla. A retired plumber and jack-of-all-trades, Kyle was always willing to help a neighbor in need.

Survivors include his sons, Brian (Melody) Keighley of Odessa, Tex. and Steven (Danielle) Keighley of Lake Charles, La.; his grandchildren Duke and Amelia Keighley of Odessa, Tex. and Slate Keighley of Lake Charles, La.; his brothers Stephen Keighley of Bronx and James Keighley of Deerfield Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his companion, Johanna Imbrogno of Chester.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother George G. Keighley.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 at Our Lady of Refuge, 290 East 196th St., Bronx.

Elaine S. Vinson

December 21, 1933 – July 21. 2018

Cornwall

Elaine S Vinson, of Cornwall entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on July 21 at her home. She was 84 years old.

The daughter of the late George S. Stratis and Josephine Bertha Ella Drosihn Stratis, Elaine was born on December 21, 1933 in Newburgh.

Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard F. Vinson, II in 2004. She is survived by her sons: Richard F. Vinson, III (Susan Thompson), Robin M. Vinson, Gary A. Vinson and George S. Vinson; her daughters: Becky Jo (Vinson) Claypool (Stephen Keyser) and Kristy (Vinson) Poplawski; She also leaves seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
