George Henry Kane

George Henry Kane was born on Feb. 2, 1947 in Newburgh, and died peacefully at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh.  He struggled with health issues recently and put up a gallant fight. He was the son of the late Henry and Gertrude M. (Tricarico) Kane.

George attended Willow Avenue Elementary and Cornwall Junior and Senior High School, where he was a member of the class of 1965.

George honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

George was predeceased by his parents in 2009, a sister Barbara in 1959, a brother Brian in 1961, a sister Karen in 2011, his brothers Kevin “Trapper” and Henry Kane, Jr. in 2017.  George is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins across the country.

There will be a graveside service with Military Honors on Sat. July 14 at 11 a.m. at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.  There, he will be laid to rest with his sister, brother and near his parents.

In lieu of flowers please, make a memorial contribution to the Friends of the Cornwall Public Library, 395 Hudson Street, Cornwall, NY 12518.

Margaret Tudor Murphy

Margaret Tudor Murphy, widow of Robert E. Murphy Sr., died July 6.

Born in Walden, daughter of the late Charles Edward Tudor and Susan Johnstone Tudor, she was a former resident of Cornwall, and civilian retiree of the US Military Academy, West Point. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Cornwall, and of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greenville, S.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Murphy Jr. and two brothers, Edward H. Tudor and Charles A. Tudor.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Rebecca M. Murphy of Greenville, SC; two granddaughters, Ashley Murphy Bickerstaff (Lindsay), and Shannon Jaynes (Richard); grandson, Brandt Givens (Luci); six great-grandchildren: Neill and Murphy Bickerstaff, Chase and Sarah Grace Givens, and Lewis and Patton Jaynes; and one niece and two nephews.
